  • 8. And they shall keep all the utensils of the tent of meeting, and the charge of the children of Israel, to administer the service of the tabernacle.
  • 9. And thou shalt give the Levites to Aaron and to his sons; out of all Israel thou shalt give them a gift, a high gift.
  • 10. Therefore Aaron and his sons shall hold the priesthood; but the stranger who approaches will be killed.
  • 11. And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
  • 12. I took the Levites from among the children of Israel in place of all the firstborn that opens the womb among the children of Israel; the Levites will be mine.
  • 13. For all the firstborn are mine; from the day that I smote every firstborn in the land of Egypt, I sanctified to myself every firstborn in Israel, from man to beast; mine will be. I am the LORD.
  • 14. And the LORD spake unto Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, saying,

  • 23. The number of the firstborn males from a month old and upward, according to those who were numbered of them, was twenty-two thousand two hundred seventy-three.
  • 24. And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
  • 25. Take the Levites instead of all the firstborn among the children of Israel, and the animals of the Levites instead of their animals; and the Levites shall be mine. I am the LORD.
  • 26. And you shall speak to the Levites, saying to them, When you receive the tithes of the children of Israel, which I have given you from them for your inheritance, you shall offer from them a heave offering to the LORD, the tithes of the tithes.
  • 27. And your heave offering shall be counted unto you as the grain of the threshing floor, and as the fullness of the winepress.
  • 28. In the same way ye shall offer a heave offering unto the LORD out of all your tithes, which ye receive of the children of Israel; and ye shall give of it the heave offering of the LORD unto Aaron the priest.
  • 29. Of all your gifts ye shall offer all the heave offering of the LORD; of the best of them you shall offer the heave offering.
  • 30. And you shall say to them, When you offer the best of it, then it shall be counted to the Levites as the increase of the threshing floor, and as the increase of the winepress.
