- 1. If the Lord were not on our side; May we proclaim:
- 2. If the Lord had not been with us when our adversaries surrounded us,
- 3. they would have consumed us alive, when they flared up against us;
- 4. the currents would have swept us away and the waves would have submerged us;
- 5. yes, the raging waters would have drowned us!
- 6. Praise be to the Lord, who has not handed us over as prey to the teeth of our enemies.
- 7. Like a bird we escape the hunter's snare; the bond was broken, and we managed to escape.
- 8. Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made the heavens and the earth.
