  • 1. Hallelujah! Let us give thanks to the Lord, for He is good, and His goodness endures forever.
  • 2. Who can describe the mighty works of the Lord, or express all the praise that is due Him?
  • 3. Happy are those who persevere in righteousness, who do justice constantly!
  • 4. Remember me, Lord, when You show kindness to Your people; come to my aid when you save them,
  • 5. that I may witness the prosperity of Your chosen ones, rejoice in the joy of Your people, and praise You with Your inheritance.
  • 6. We sin like our ancestors; we were rebellious and did evil.
  • 7. In Egypt, our ancestors did not consider Your wonders; They did not remember the many manifestations of Your loyal love, and they rebelled near the Red Sea.
  • 8. However, You rescued them for Your name's sake, to show Your power.
  • 9. You rebuked the Red Sea, and it dried up; You guided them through the depths as through a desert.
  • 10. You freed them from the hands of those who hated them; and you rescued them from their enemies.
  • 11. The waters covered their adversaries; none of them survived.
  • 12. Then they believed Your promises and sang praises to You.
  • 13. But they soon forgot what You had done, and did not wait for Your plan.
  • 14. Dominated by greed in the desert, they put God to the test in the arid lands.
  • 15. You gave them what they asked for, but you sent a terrible plague upon them.
  • 16. In the camp they were jealous of Moses and Aaron, of him who was consecrated to the Lord.
  • 17. The earth opened, swallowed Dathan, and buried Abiram's group;
  • 18. fire arose among his followers, and the flames consumed the wicked.
  • 19. In Horeb they made a golden calf, and worshiped an image of metal.
  • 20. They exchanged Your glory for an image of an ox that eats grass.
  • 21. They forgot God, their Savior, who performed wonders in Egypt,
  • 22. wonders in the land of Ham and fearsome deeds near the Red Sea.
  • 23. Therefore He threatened to destroy them; but Moses, His chosen one, interceded before Him, to prevent His wrath from consuming them.
  • 24. They also rejected the desirable land; they did not believe His promise.
  • 25. They complained in their tents and did not obey the Lord.
  • 26. So He raised His hand against them, swearing that He would overthrow them in the wilderness.
  • 27. And he dispersed his descendants among the nations, scattering them to other lands.
  • 28. They submitted themselves to the yoke of Baal-peor, and ate sacrifices offered to dead idols;
  • 29. they provoked the Lord's anger by their actions, and a plague broke out among them.
  • 30. But Phinehas arose to execute judgment, and the plague was stopped.
  • 31. This was credited to him as an act of righteousness, which will be remembered forever, by all generations.
  • 32. They provoked the wrath of God near the waters of Meribah; and because of them Moses was punished;
  • 33. they rebelled against the Spirit of God, and Moses spoke without thinking.
  • 34. They did not destroy the nations, as the Lord had commanded,
  • 35. but they mingled with the people and imitated their practices.
  • 36. They worshiped the idols of the nations, which became a snare for them.
  • 37. They sacrificed their sons and daughters to demons.
  • 38. They shed innocent blood, the blood of their sons and daughters sacrificed to the idols of Canaan; and the land was profaned with their blood.
  • 39. They became unclean by their actions; they prostituted themselves by their actions.
  • 40. Therefore the anger of the Lord was kindled against His people, and He was repulsed by His inheritance.
  • 41. He gave them into the hands of the nations, and their enemies ruled over them.
  • 42. Their adversaries oppressed them and subdued them with their power.
  • 43. However, He delivered them several times, even though they persisted in their plans of rebellion and sank into wickedness.
  • 44. But God saw their suffering when He heard their cry.
  • 45. He remembered His covenant with them, and had compassion because of His immense loyal love.
  • 46. He made those who had taken them captive have mercy on them.
  • 47. Save us, Lord, our God! Gather us from among the nations, that we may give thanks to Your holy name and glory in Your praise.
  • 48. Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, from now on and forever. Let all the people say: “Amen!” Hallelujah!
