The limits of Canaan

1. The Lord said to Moses in the plain of Moab, by the Jordan, near Jericho:
2. “Give the following instructions to the children of Israel: When you enter the land of Canaan, this will be the land that you will receive as your inheritance, the land of Canaan with its borders.
3. The southern border will be from the wilderness of Zin, along the border of Edom, and will continue south to the southern tip of the Salt Sea.
4. It will turn south along the ascent of Acrabim and pass to Zim. The southern border will end at Kadesh-Barnea, from where it will continue to Hazar-Adar and continue to Azmon.
5. The border will run from Azmon to the River of Egypt and end at the Mediterranean Sea.
6. The western border will be the Mediterranean Sea.
7. “The northern border will run from the Mediterranean Sea to Mount Hor,
8. from Mount Hor to Lebo-hamath. The border will continue until Zedade
9. and will continue until Zifrom. The border will end at Hazar-Enã. This will be the northern border.
10. “You will draw the eastern border from Hazar-enan to Shephan.
11. The border will go down from Shephan to Riblah, east of Ain. And it will continue to descend and extend along the east side of the Sea of Galilee.
12. The border will go down along the Jordan River and end at the Salt Sea. This will be the land you will receive as your inheritance, with its borders around it.”
13. Moses gave these instructions to the children of Israel, saying: “This is the land that you will inherit by lot, which the Lord has commanded to be given to the nine and a half tribes.
14. The tribe of the Reubenites by their families, and the tribe of the Gadites by their families, received their inheritance; and half the tribe of Manasseh received their inheritance.
15. The two and a half tribes received their inheritance east of the Jordan toward Jericho on the east side.
16. The Lord said to Moses:
17. “These are the people who will divide the land as an inheritance among you: Eleazar the priest, Joshua son of Nun,
18. and a leader from each tribe.
19. These are the names of the men: Caleb, son of Jephunneh, of the tribe of Judah;
20. Samuel, son of Ammihud, of the tribe of Simeon;
21. Elidaph, son of Deuel, of the tribe of Benjamin;
22. Buki, son of Jogli, leader of the tribe of the children of Dan;
23. Haniel, son of Ephod, leader of the tribe of the children of Manasseh, son of Joseph;
24. Kemuel, son of Shiphtan, leader of the tribe of the children of Ephraim;
25. Elishaphan son of Parnach, leader of the tribe of the children of Zebulun;
26. Paltiel, son of Azan, leader of the tribe of the children of Issachar;
27. Ahihud, son of Selomi, leader of the tribe of the children of Asher;
28. Pedael, son of Ammihud, leader of the tribe of the children of Naphtali.”
29. These are the men whom the Lord commanded to divide the inheritance among the Israelites in the land of Canaan.
