The Nazirites

  • 1. And the LORD said to Moses:
  • 2. Speak to the children of Israel and say to them: When a man or a woman makes a special vow of a Nazarite, separating himself to the LORD,
  • 3. he will abstain from wine and strong drink; he shall not drink wine vinegar, nor strong drink vinegar; He shall not drink any drink made from grapes, nor shall he eat grapes, fresh or dried.
  • 4. Every day of his Naziriteship he will not eat anything that comes from the vine, from the seeds to the skins.
  • 5. Every day of his Nazirite vow, no razor will come over his head; until the days set apart for the LORD are fulfilled, he will be holy; will grow the hair on your head.
  • 6. Every day that he sets himself apart for the LORD, he will not approach the dead.
  • 7. Neither for his father, nor for his mother, nor for his brother, nor for his sister shall he be defiled when they die; because the Naziriteship of his God is over his head.
  • 8. All the days of his Nazariteship will be holy to the LORD.
  • 9. And if anyone suddenly dies next to him and defiles the head of his Nazarite, on the day of his purification he will shave his head; on the seventh day he will shave her.
  • 10. And on the eighth day he shall bring two turtledoves, or two young pigeons, to the priest at the door of the tent of meeting;
  • 11. and the priest shall offer the first as a sin offering, and the other as a burnt offering; so he will make atonement for him for his sin because of the dead man, and he will sanctify his head on that very day.
  • 12. And he shall consecrate to the LORD the days of his Nazariteship, and shall offer a lamb a year old as a sin offering; but the preceding days will be lost, because his Naziriteship has been contaminated.
  • 13. This is the law of the Nazirite: on the day when the days of his Naziriteship are fulfilled, he will be brought to the door of the tent of meeting;
  • 14. and he shall offer his offering to the LORD, a lamb a year old without blemish for a burnt offering, and a female ewe lamb a year old without blemish for a sin offering, and a ram without blemish for a peace offering;
  • 15. also a basket of unleavened bread, cakes mixed with oil, and unleavened cakes dipped in oil, with their meat offering and their drink offerings.
  • 16. And the priest shall present them before the LORD, and shall offer their sin offering, and their burnt offering;
  • 17. he shall also offer the ram as a peace offering to the LORD, with the basket of unleavened bread; and the priest shall offer his meat offering and his drink offering.
  • 18. Then the Nazirite shall shave off the hair of his Nazirite at the door of the tent of meeting, and he shall take the hair from the head of his Nazirite and put it on the fire that is under the peace offering.
  • 19. And the priest shall take the boiled shoulder of the ram, and an unleavened cake out of the basket, and an unleavened chorion; and he will put them into the hands of the Nazirite, after he has shaved the hair of his Nazirite.
  • 20. And the priest shall offer them as a wave offering before the LORD; this is holy to the priest, together with the breast of the wave offering and the shoulder of the heave offering; and then the Nazarite may drink wine.
  • 21. This is the law of the Nazirite who makes a vow of his offering to the LORD because of his Naziriteship, beyond what his means allow; according to the vow he makes, he will do so, according to the law of his nazarite.

The priestly blessing

  • 22. And the LORD said to Moses:
  • 23. Speak to Aaron and his sons, saying, Thus shall you bless the children of Israel; you will say to them:
  • 24. The LORD bless you and keep you;
  • 25. the LORD will make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you;
  • 26. The LORD lifts up his countenance upon you and gives you peace.
  • 27. So they will put my name on the children of Israel, and I will bless them.
