  • 6. Bring the tribe of Levi and set them before Aaron the priest, so that they may serve him.
  • 7. And keep his charge, and the charge of the whole congregation before the tent of meeting, to minister in the service of the tabernacle.
  • 8. And they shall keep all the vessels of the tabernacle of the congregation, and the charge of the children of Israel, to administer the service of the tabernacle.
  • 9. And you shall give the Levites to Aaron and his sons; of all Israel you will give them as a gift, a great gift.
  • 10. Therefore Aaron and his sons shall hold the priesthood; but the stranger who comes will be killed.
  • 11. And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying:
  • 12. I took the Levites from among the children of Israel in place of all the firstborn that open the womb among the children of Israel; the Levites will be mine.
  • 13. For every firstborn is mine; From the day that I smote every firstborn in the land of Egypt, I sanctified to myself every firstborn in Israel, from man to beast; mine will be. I am the LORD.
  • 14. And the LORD spoke to Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, saying:

  • 22. And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying:
  • 23. The number of the firstborn of the males from one month upwards, according to those who were numbered of them, was twenty-two thousand two hundred and seventy-three.

  • 25. Take the Levites instead of all the firstborn among the children of Israel, and the animals of the Levites instead of their animals; and the Levites will be mine. I am the LORD.
  • 26. And thou shalt speak unto the Levites, saying unto them, When ye receive the tithes of the children of Israel, which I have given you of them for your inheritance, ye shall offer of them a heave offering unto the LORD, the tithes of the tithes.
  • 27. And your offering will be counted to you as grain from the threshing floor, and as the fulness of the winepress.
  • 28. In the same way you shall also offer a heave offering to the LORD, out of all your tithes that you receive from the children of Israel; and you shall give of them the heave offering of the LORD to Aaron the priest.
  • 29. Of all your gifts you shall offer the entire heave offering of the LORD; of the best of them you will offer the heave offering.
  • 30. And you shall say to them: When you offer the best of it, then it will be told to the Levites as the increase of the threshing floor, and as the increase of the wine press.
  • 31. And you shall eat in every place, you and your household; for it is your reward for your service in the tent of meeting.
  • 32. And you will not bear sin when you offer the best of it; neither shall ye defile the holy things of the children of Israel, lest ye die.
  • 33. They will not approach the sanctuary, so that neither they nor you will die.
