Miriam and Aaron oppose Moses

  • 1. Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses because of the Cushite woman he had taken, for he had taken a Cushite woman.
  • 2. And they said, Has the Lord spoken by Moses alone? Haven't you also spoken for us? And the Lord heard him.
  • 3. Now Moses was very meek, more than all the men that were on the earth.
  • 4. And immediately the Lord said to Moses, to Aaron, and to Miriam, Go out unto the tabernacle of the congregation, all three of you. And the three of them left.
  • 5. Then the Lord came down in the pillar of cloud, and stood at the door of the tent; Then he called Aaron and Miriam, who both went out.
  • 6. And he said, Hear now my words; If there is a prophet among you, I, the Lord, make myself known to him in a vision, or speak to him in dreams.
  • 7. Not so with my servant Moses, who is faithful in all my house.
  • 8. I speak to him mouth to mouth, clearly and not in riddles; for he sees the likeness of the Lord; Why then were you not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?
  • 9. So the anger of the Lord was kindled against them; and withdrew.
  • 10. And the cloud removed from over the tent; and behold, Miriam became leprous like snow; And Aaron looked at Miriam, and behold, she was leprosy.
  • 11. Then Aaron said to Moses: Ah, my lord, I pray thee, do not lay this sin upon us, for we have done foolishly and have sinned.
  • 12. Now let her not be like a miscarriage, which, coming out of its mother's womb, has half of its body consumed.
  • 13. Then Moses cried out to the Lord, saying: O God, I pray thee, heal her.
  • 14. The Lord answered Moses, If her father had spit in her face, should she not be ashamed seven days? Keep her locked up outside the camp for seven days and then take her in.
  • 15. So Miriam was shut up outside the camp for seven days; and the people did not leave until Miriam was gathered.
  • 16. Then the people left Hazeroth and camped in the wilderness of Paran.
