The builders of the walls

  • 1. Eliashib, the high priest, and his brother priests began the work and rebuilt the Sheep Gate. They consecrated it and put the doors in place. Then they built the wall up to the Tower of the Hundred and the Tower of Hananeel.
  • 2. The men of Jericho rebuilt the next section, and Zaccur, son of Inri, built just beyond.
  • 3. The sons of Hassenaah rebuilt the Fish Gate. They installed the frames and put the doors, locks and deadbolts in place.
  • 4. Meremoth, son of Uriah and grandson of Hacoz, worked on the following section. At his side, Meshullam, son of Berekiah and grandson of Meshezabel, also worked. And beside them Zadok son of Baanah also carried out the repairs.
  • 5The men of Tekoa worked on the next stretch, but their nobles did not want to submit to the Lord's service and rejected the guidance of their supervisors.
  • 6. The Jesana Gate was repaired by Jehoiada, son of Paseia, and by Meshullam, son of Besodias. They installed the frames and put the doors, locks and deadbolts in place.
  • 7. The following section was repaired by Melatiah of Gibeon and Jadom of Meronot, men of Gibeon and Mizpah, who were under the authority of the governor of the province Beyond the Euphrates.
  • 8. Uzziel son of Haraiah, one of the goldsmiths, carried out the repairs on the next section, and Hananiah, one of the perfumers, also worked beside him. They rebuilt Jerusalem up to the Broad Wall.
  • 9Rephaiah son of Hur, governor of half the district of Jerusalem, worked on the next section.
  • 10. Beside him, Jedaiah son of Harumaph carried out repairs in front of his own house, and Hattus son of Hashabneiah worked alongside him.
  • 11. Malchiah son of Harim and Hashhub son of Paath-Moab repaired another area and the Tower of Furnaces.
  • 12. Shallum son of Haloesh, governor of the other half of the district of Jerusalem, carried out the repairs on the next section with the help of his daughters.
  • 13. The Valley Gate was repaired by Hanun and the inhabitants of Zanoa. They rebuilt it and put the doors, locks and bolts in place. They also repaired 450 meters of the wall, up to Porta do Esterco.
  • 14. The Dung Gate was repaired by Malkiah, son of Rechab, governor of the district of Beth-hacherem. He rebuilt it and put the doors, locks and bolts in place.
  • 15. The Fountain Gate was repaired by Shallum, son of Col-Hozé, governor of the district of Mizpah. He rebuilt it, covered it, and put the doors, locks, and bolts in place. He also carried out repairs on the wall of the pool of Siloam, near the King's Garden, up to the steps leading down from the City of David.
  • 16. In addition to him, Nehemiah, son of Azbuk, governor of half of the district of Beth-Zur, carried out repairs even in front of David's tombs, as well as the artificial reservoir and the Soldiers' House.
  • 17. After him, the Levites, under the supervision of Rehum son of Bani, carried out the repairs. Beside him, Hashabiah, governor of half the district of Keilah, also carried out repairs in his district.
  • 18. After them, their countrymen, under the supervision of Binui, son of Henadad, governor of half the district of Keilah, carried out the repairs.
  • 19. Beside them, Ezer son of Jeshua, governor of Mizpah, carried out repairs on another section, starting from a point in front of the climb to the House of Arms, to the corner of the wall.
  • 20. After him, Baruch son of Zabai zealously repaired another section, from the corner of the wall to the entrance to the house of the high priest Eliashib.
  • 21. Then Meremoth, son of Uriah and grandson of Hacoz, repaired another section, from the entrance to Eliashib's house until the end of it.
  • 22. The nearby priests carried out the remaining repairs.
  • 23. After that, Benjamin and Hassube carried out repairs in front of their own houses. Beside them, Azariah, son of Maaseiah and grandson of Ananias, carried out repairs next to his own house.
  • 24. After him, Binui, son of Henadad, repaired another section, from the house of Azariah to the corner of the wall.
  • 25. Palal, son of Uzai, worked in front of the corner of the wall and the tower projecting from the Upper Palace, near the Courtyard of the Guard. Beside him, Pedaiah son of Parós,
  • 26. and the servants of the temple who lived on Mount Ophel carried out the repairs as far as the Water Gate in the east and the projecting tower.
  • 27. After that, the men of Tekoa carried out repairs on another section, from the great tower to the wall of Ophel.
  • 28. Above the Horse Gate, the priests carried out repairs, each in front of his own house.
  • 29. After them, Zadok son of Immer carried out repairs in front of his own house. Beside him, Shemaiah son of Shecaniah, the guard of the Eastern Gate, carried out the repairs.
  • 30. Then Hananiah, son of Shelemiah, and Hanun, son of Zalaph, carried out repairs in another section. Then Meshullam, son of Berekiah, carried out repairs in front of his house.
  • 31. After them, Malkiah, a goldsmith, repaired the wall as far as the house of the temple servants and the merchants, in front of the Gate of Inspection, as far as the Corner Watch Post.
  • 32. Between the room above the corner and the Sheep Gate, the goldsmiths and merchants carried out the repairs, each in front of his own house.
