  • 28. “The rest of the people – priests, Levites, gatekeepers, singers, temple servants and all who separated themselves from the neighboring peoples to follow the Law of God, with their wives and children capable of understanding –
  • 29. All these now unite with their brothers, the nobles, and bind themselves under curse and oath to follow the Law of God given through Moses, the servant of God, and to faithfully obey all the commandments, statutes and decrees of the Lord, our Lord.
  • 30. We promise not to give our daughters in marriage to neighboring peoples nor take their daughters to marry our sons.
  • 31. When neighboring people bring goods or grain to sell on the Sabbath or any holy day, we will not buy from them on those days. Every seven years, we will give up working the land and forgive all debts.
  • 32. We assume the responsibility of contributing one-third of a shekel annually to the service of the temple of our God:
  • 33. for the showbread, for the regular grain offering, for the continual burnt offering, for the sacrifices of the Sabbath, new moon and appointed feasts, for the holy offerings, for the sin offerings to make atonement for Israel, and for all the work of the temple of our God.
  • 34. We cast lots to choose, among the families of the priests, the Levites and the people, who would bring the wood to the temple of our God, as written in the Law.
  • 35. We also undertake to bring to the temple of the Lord, every year, the first fruits of our harvest and of every fruit tree.
  • 36. We will also bring the firstfruits of our children and our livestock, as it is written in the Law, and the firstfruits of our flock and our herds to the priests who are in the temple of our God.
  • 37. We will take to the storehouses of the temple of our God, to the priests, the first portions of our dough, of our grain offerings, of the fruit of every tree, of the new wine and of the oil. And we will bring the tithe of our harvests to the Levites, for they are the ones who collect the tithes in all our cities where they work.
  • 38. A priest, a descendant of Aaron, accompanied by the Levites, will receive the tithes. They will bring a tenth of the tithes to the house of our God, to the temple storehouses.
  • 39. For the Israelites and the Levites will bring grain offerings and new wine and oil there. And there are the utensils of the sanctuary, the priests who minister, and the gatekeepers and singers. “We will not neglect the temple of our God.”
