The oil lamps and the consecrated bread

  • 1. The LORD said to Moses:
  • 2. “Tell the Israelites to bring pure, beaten olive oil for the lampstand to keep the lamps burning continually.
  • 3. Aaron will take care of it continually, from the evening until the next morning, before the LORD, outside the veil that is before the ark of the covenant, in the tabernacle. This will be a perpetual statute for your generations.
  • 4. He will set the lamps in order on the lampstand of pure gold, so that they burn continually before the LORD.
  • 5. “Also take a fine flour and make twelve loaves of bread, using two and a half liters of flour for each one.
  • 6. Place them in two rows, six in each, on the table of pure gold before the LORD.
  • 7. On each row place pure incense, which will be a memorial to the bread, an offering prepared by fire to the LORD.
  • 8. Each Sabbath, Aaron will set them in order before the LORD, continually, on the part of the Israelites, as a perpetual covenant.
  • 9. They will belong to Aaron and his sons, who will eat them in a holy place, because for them it is the most holy thing, from the offerings prepared by fire before the LORD. It is a perpetual statute.”

Punishment for blasphemy

  • 10. A son of an Israelite and an Egyptian went out among the Israelites, and the son of the Israelite and a man of Israel had a disagreement in the camp.
  • 11. The Israelite's son blasphemed the Name and cursed it. So they brought him to Moses. (His mother's name was Shelomith, daughter of Dibri, of the tribe of Dan.)
  • 12. They put him on guard, so that the will of the LORD might be shown to them.
  • 13. Then the LORD said to Moses:
  • 14. “Take the blasphemer out of the camp. Everyone who heard him will lay their hands on his head, and the entire congregation will stone him.
  • 15. Then he will say to the Israelites: 'Anyone who curses his God will take his guilt upon himself.
  • 16. Whoever blasphemes the Name of the LORD will be put to death. The whole congregation will stone him. Whether he is a foreigner or a native of the land, he will be killed for blaspheming the Name.
  • 17. “'Whoever kills another human being will be killed.
  • 18. Whoever kills an animal will be obliged to make restitution, life for life.
  • 19. Whoever causes injury to someone will suffer the same injury: an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. The same injury you cause to another will be caused to you.
  • 20. Whoever kills an animal will pay for it, but whoever kills a human being will be killed.
  • 21. Whoever harms an animal will pay for it, but whoever harms a human being will be harmed.
  • 22. ” 'In the same way, whether a foreigner or a native of the land, the same law will apply to everyone. I am the LORD your God.' “
  • 23. Then Moses spoke to the Israelites, and they took the blasphemer out of the camp and stoned him. So the Israelites did as the LORD commanded Moses.
