  • 1. The LORD said to Moses:
  • 2. “Tell Aaron and his sons to turn away from the holy things of the Israelites, which they have profaned for me, so that they will not profane my holy name. I am the LORD.
  • 3. Tell them: 'For future generations, if any man of your descendants, while he is unclean, approaches the holy things that the Israelites consecrate to the LORD, he will be cut off from my presence. I am the LORD.
  • 4. "'No man of Aaron's seed who has leprosy or discharge,
  • 5. You can eat holy things until you are clean. Whoever touches any unclean thing of a corpse or of a man that has an emission of semen,
  • 6. or whoever touches anything that makes a human being unclean, whatever his impurity,
  • 7. Anyone who touches such things will be unclean until evening. He must not eat holy things unless he has washed his body with water.
  • 8. When the sun sets, he will be pure, and then he will be able to eat holy things, for they are his food.
  • 9. “'The priests must guard what has been consecrated to me and must not profane my holy name, for I am the LORD.
  • 10. ” 'The priests must not profane the holy name of their God, for they present the offerings of the LORD by fire, the food of their God; therefore they must be saints.
  • 11. They must not marry a prostitute or dishonored woman, nor a woman divorced from her husband, for the priest is holy to his God.
  • 12. Therefore you should consider him holy, because he offers the food of your God. He must be holy to you, for I, the LORD, who sanctifies you, am holy.
  • 13. “'If a priest's daughter becomes a prostitute and dishonors her father, she must be burned in the fire.
  • 14. “'The high priest, who is superior to his brothers, on whose head the anointing oil was poured, and who was consecrated to put on the holy garments, must not dishevel his hair or tear his clothes.
  • 15. He must not approach any dead body nor become unclean, not even from his father or mother,
  • 16. nor leave the sanctuary, lest he profane the sanctuary of his God. I am the LORD, who sanctifies them.'”

Animals for sacrifice

  • 17. The LORD said to Moses:
  • 18. “Say to Aaron and his sons, and to all the Israelites, 'When any Israelite or foreigner residing in Israel presents a burnt offering as a sacrifice to the LORD, whether in fulfillment of a vow or as a freewill offering,
  • 19. for you to be accepted, she must be an unblemished male of cattle, sheep or goats.
  • 20. You must not offer to the LORD an animal that has a defect, as this will not be accepted in your favor.
  • 21. ” 'If anyone offers to the LORD an animal sacrificed as a vow or as a freewill offering, whether cattle, sheep or goats, it must be without blemish to be accepted; there must be no defect in it.
  • 22. They must not offer to the LORD animals that are blind, crippled, mutilated or have open wounds, tumors or scabies. These animals must not be placed on the altar as a burnt offering to the LORD.
  • 23. You may, however, offer as a freewill offering an ox or a ram that has an elongated or shortened limb, but this will not be accepted in fulfillment of a vow.
  • 24. They must not offer animals with bruised, crushed, torn or cut testicles to the LORD. They must not do this in their land.
  • 25. Nor should you offer animals with any defect or imperfection to the LORD, as they will not be accepted on your behalf.
  • 26. “‘The LORD said to Moses:
  • 27. “When a calf, a lamb or a kid is born, it will remain with its mother seven days, but from the eighth day onwards it will be accepted as an offering made by fire to the LORD.
  • 28. Do not kill a cow or a sheep and its young on the same day.
  • 29. “'When you offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving to the LORD, offer it in such a way that it will be accepted on your behalf.
  • 30. It should be eaten on the same day it is offered. Don't leave anything until the next morning. I am the LORD.
  • 31. ” 'Keep my commandments and do them. I am the LORD.
  • 32. Do not profane my holy name, for I will be sanctified among the Israelites. I am the LORD, who sanctifies them.
  • 33. It was I who brought you out of Egypt to be your God. I am the LORD.'”
