Bildade
- 1. Then Bildad of Shuah answered:
- 2. “How long will you continue with those words? Your speeches are like a whirlwind!
- 3. Can God distort justice? Can the Almighty twist what is right?
- 4. If your children sinned against Him, He punished them for their iniquities.
- 5. But if you seek God and supplicate the Almighty,
- 6. If you are pure and upright, He will rise up on your behalf and restore you to your righteous position.
- 7. Your past may have been modest, but your future will be great.
- 8. “Ask past generations and learn from the teachings of your ancestors,
- 9. for we are from yesterday and know nothing. Our days on earth are like a shadow.
- 10. Will they not teach you, will they not speak words of wisdom to you? Will they not impart knowledge to you?
- 11. Does papyrus grow outside the swamp? Will reeds sprout without water?
- 12. Although still green and fresh, unharvested, it withers faster than grass.
- 13. This is the fate of those who forget God; thus the hope of the wicked perishes.
- 14. What they trust is fragile, what they hold is like a spider's web.
- 15. Leaning on the web, it breaks; holding on to her, she can't stand it.
- 16. He is like a plant that grows by the water, spreading its roots throughout the garden.
- 17. He curls up among the stones and looks for a place among the rocks.
- 18. But when he is torn from his place, he denies it, saying, 'I never saw you.'
- 19. This is the end of his life, and other shoots emerge from the ground.
- 20. “For God does not despise the upright or give strength to those who do evil.
- 21. He will fill your mouth with laughter and your lips with joy.
- 22. Your enemies will be covered with shame, and the dwelling of the wicked will be no more.”
