  • 1. Then Job answered the Lord:
  • 2. “I know that you can do all things; none of your plans can be frustrated.
  • 3. You asked: 'Who is this that obscures my counsel without knowledge?' Truly I spoke of things I did not understand, wonders that surpass my understanding.
  • 4. “You said, 'Now listen, and I will speak; I will ask you questions, and you will answer me.'
  • 5. My ears had heard of you, but now my eyes have seen you.
  • 6. Therefore I despise myself and repent in dust and ashes.”
  • 7. After speaking these words to Job, the Lord said to Eliphaz the Temanite, “I am angry with you and your two friends, because you have not spoken right about me, as my servant Job did.
  • 8. Go now to my servant Job, take seven bulls and seven rams, and offer burnt offerings for yourselves. My servant Job will pray for you, and I will accept his prayer, so that he will not deal with you according to your foolishness. You did not speak what was right about me, as my servant Job did.”
  • 9. .Then Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite went and did as the Lord had told them, and the Lord accepted Job's prayer.
  • 10. After Job prayed for his friends, the Lord blessed him again and gave him double what he had before.
  • 11. All his brothers and sisters and all who knew him before came to him and ate in his house. They consoled him and comforted him through all the trials that the Lord had brought upon him, and each gave him a piece of silver and a gold ring.
  • 12. The Lord blessed Job's last years more than his first. He had fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, a thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand donkeys.
  • 13. He also had seven sons and three daughters.
  • 14. The first daughter he called Jemimah, the second Keziah, and the third Cheren-hapuk.
  • 15. In all the land there were no women as beautiful as Job's daughters, and their father gave them an inheritance along with their brothers.
  • 16. After this Job lived one hundred and forty years; he saw his children and their descendants to the fourth generation.
  • 17. Then Job died, old and satisfied with life.
