- 1. Then Elihu continued:
- 2. “I ask you to have a little more patience with me, and I will show you that there is still more to say in defense of God.
- 3. I will bring knowledge from afar; I will attribute justice to my Creator.
- 4. My words are true; Whoever is with you is perfect in wisdom.
- 5. God is powerful, but he does not despise men; It is powerful and firm in its purpose.
- 6. He does not preserve the lives of the wicked, but guarantees the rights of the afflicted.
- 7. He does not turn away his eyes from the righteous; he sets him on thrones with kings and exalts him forever.
- 8. But if they are chained, bound with the ropes of affliction,
- 9. he will show them what they have done, that they have sinned arrogantly.
- 10. He will give them an ear for correction and command them to repent of the evil they have done.
- 11. If they obey him and serve him, they will prosper until the end of their days and will have joy in the years that remain to them.
- 12. But if they do not listen to him, they will perish by the sword and die in their ignorance.
- 13. “Hypocrites hold grudges; Even when they are chained, they do not cry out for help.
- 14. They die in their youth and are dragged into the place of prostitutes.
- 15. But God, in his affliction, rescues him; he is drawing you from the jaws of oppression to a place that is spacious and free, where the table is plentiful.
- 16. “Be careful! Don't be carried away by wealth; do not long for the night, when the people are taken away.
- 17. Beware lest you choose iniquity rather than affliction.
- 18. God is exalted in his power; Who is a master like him?
- 19. Who prescribed your ways or told you, 'You have done wrong'?
- 20. Remember to extol your works, which all men behold.
- 21. All humanity sees them; From afar, men watch them.
- 22. God is exalted in his power; Who is a master like him?
- 23. Who determines your path or tells you, 'You did wrong'?
- 24. Remember to glorify your works, which men sing in praise.
- 25. All men see them; each one contemplates them from afar.
- 26. God is great beyond our understanding; the number of his years is unfathomable.
- 27. It attracts the drops of water that evaporate to form rain,
- 28. which is poured out in abundance upon humanity.
- 29. Who can understand how the clouds spread, the thunder echoes from his tabernacle?
- 30. See how he spreads out his clouds, how he thunders from his treasures.
- 31. He rules the nations and gives them food in abundance.
- 32. He holds the lightning in his hands and orders them where to strike.
- 33. Its thunder announces the approaching storm; even the animals sense his coming.”
