The consecration of priests

  • 1. This is what you will do to them to sanctify them, to administer the priesthood to me: take a bull, and two rams without blemish,
  • 2. and unleavened bread, and unleavened cakes, mixed with oil, and unleavened cakes, smeared with oil; you will make them from fine wheat flour.
  • 3. And thou shalt put them in a basket, and bring them in the basket; as well as the bull and the two rams.
  • 4. And you shall bring Aaron and his sons to the door of the tent of meeting, and you shall wash them with water.
  • 5. And thou shalt take the garments, and put on Aaron the tunic, and the cloak of the ephod, and the ephod, and the breastplate, and gird him with the girdle of the ephod.
  • 6. And thou shalt put the miter upon his head, and the crown of holiness upon the miter.
  • 7. And thou shalt take the anointing oil, and pour it upon his head, and anoint him.
  • 8. You will also bring their children and put their coats on them;
  • 9. and you shall gird them with sashes, Aaron and his sons, and tie their headbands on them; thus they will have the priesthood by perpetual right; and you shall consecrate Aaron and his sons.
  • 10. You shall also bring the bull before the tent of meeting; and Aaron and his sons shall lay their hands on the head of the bull.
  • 11. And you shall kill the bull before the LORD at the door of the tent of meeting.
  • 12. And you shall take some of the blood of the bull, and put it with your finger on the horns of the altar; and you will spill all the blood at the foot of the altar.
  • 13. You shall also take all the fat that covers the entrails, and the casing of the liver, and the two kidneys, and the fat that is on them, and you shall light it on the altar.
  • 14. But the flesh of the bull, and its skin, and its dung, you shall burn with fire outside the camp; It is atonement for sin.
  • 15. Then you will take one of the rams, and Aaron and his sons will lay their hands on the ram's head.
  • 16. And thou shalt kill him, and take his blood, and sprinkle it on the altar round about.
  • 17. And you shall break him in pieces, and wash his entrails and his legs, and put them on his pieces, and on his head.
  • 18. And you shall kindle every ram upon the altar; It is a burnt offering to the LORD, a sweet smell; It is a burnt offering to the LORD.
  • 19. Then you will take the other ram; and Aaron and his sons shall lay their hands on the head of the ram.
  • 20. And thou shalt kill the ram, and take of its blood, and put it upon the tip of Aaron's right ear, and upon the tip of his sons' right ear, and upon the thumb of his right hand, and upon the thumb of their right foot; and you shall sprinkle the blood on the altar all around.
  • 21. And thou shalt take of the blood that shall be upon the altar, and of the anointing oil, and sprinkle it upon Aaron, and upon his garments, and upon his sons, and upon the garments of his sons with him; that he and his garments may be sanctified, he and his children with him.
  • 22. You shall also take of the ram the fat, and the fat tail, and the fat that covers the entrails, and the casket of the liver, and the two kidneys, and the fat that is on them, and the right leg, because it is a ram of the consecration.
  • 23. And a pie of bread, and a cake of oiled bread, and a soup of unleavened bread, which are before the face of the LORD;
  • 24. and you shall put all these things into the hands of Aaron and into the hands of his sons, and you shall offer them as a wave offering before the LORD.
  • 25. Then thou shalt take it out of their hands, and burn it upon the altar upon the burnt offering; a sweet smell is before the LORD; It is a burnt offering to the LORD.
  • 26. And thou shalt take the breast of the ram of consecration, which is Aaron's, and shalt offer it for a wave offering before the LORD; and this will be your part.
  • 27. And thou shalt sanctify the breast of the wave offering, and the thigh of the heave offering, which was waved and heaved of Aaron, and of his sons.
  • 28. And this shall be an everlasting statute of the children of Israel; for it is a heave offering, and a wave offering, of their peace offerings before the LORD.
  • 29. The holy garments of Aaron shall be for his sons after him, to be anointed in them, and to be consecrated with them.
  • 30. For seven days he who is among his sons shall be a priest in his place, when he enters the tent of meeting to minister in the sanctuary.
  • 31. And you shall take the ram of consecration, and boil its flesh in the holy place.
  • 32. And Aaron and his sons shall eat the flesh of the ram, and the bread that is in the basket, at the door of the tent of meeting.
  • 33. They shall therefore eat the things with which atonement was made to consecrate and sanctify them; but a stranger will not eat of them, because they are holy.
  • 34. And if there remains of the meat of the consecrations and of the bread until the morning, you shall burn what remains; It shall not be eaten, because it is a holy thing.
  • 35. So you shall do to Aaron and his sons according to all that I have commanded you; for seven days you shall consecrate them.
  • 36. And you shall offer the bull of atonement every day for propitiation; and thou shalt purify the altar, making atonement for it; and you will anoint it to sanctify it.
  • 37. For seven days you shall make atonement for the altar, and you shall sanctify it, and the altar shall be most holy; everything that touches the altar will be holy.
  • 38. This is what you will offer on the altar: lambs of a year old, two each day, forever.
  • 39. One lamb you will offer in the morning, and the other lamb you will offer in the evening.
  • 40. And a tenth of fine flour, mixed with a quarter of a hin of beaten oil, and a drink offering of a quarter of a hin of wine, for the lamb.
  • 41. And the other lamb thou shalt offer in the evening, and do with it as with the morning offering, and according to its drink offering, for a sweet savor; It is a burnt offering to the LORD for a statute forever throughout your generations.
  • 42. And the fore lamb thou shalt offer in the evening; according to the morning offering, and according to its drink offering, you shall offer it as a sweet savor, an offering made by fire to the LORD.
  • 43. And you shall have Aaron and his sons, and you shall say to them: This is what the LORD has commanded, saying:
  • 44. The cloud of the congregation will cover the tabernacle of the congregation; and the glory of the LORD will fill the tabernacle.
  • 45. And Moses could not enter the tent of meeting, because the cloud remained over it, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle.
  • 46. And when the cloud was lifted from over the tabernacle, then the children of Israel walked in all their journeys;
