Verses from 1 Chronicles, Chapter 13 of the book of 1 Samuel in the Bible.
The moving of the ark
- 1. After consulting all his officers, the commanders of thousands and hundreds, David spoke to the entire assembly of Israel:
- 2. “If you agree and if this is the will of the Lord our God, we will send a message to our brothers in all the lands of Israel, including the priests and Levites who are in their cities, to come and meet with us.
- 3. Let us bring back the ark of our God, for we forgot it during the reign of Saul.”
- 4. The entire assembly agreed, as this seemed right to all the people.
- 5. David summoned all Israel, from the river of Egypt to Lebo-hamath, to come and bring the ark of God from Kiriath-jearim.
- 6. David and all Israel went to Baalah, which is Kiriath-jearim, in Judah, to bring the ark of God, the Lord, who sits on the cherubim, and where his name is called.
- 7. They transported the ark of God from the house of Abinadab in a new chariot, driven by Uzzah and Ahio.
- 8. David and all Israel danced and sang before God with all their might, with the sound of harps, lyres, tambourines, cymbals and trumpets.
- 9. When they reached the threshing floor of Kidon, Uzzah stretched out his hand to hold the ark, because the oxen had stumbled.
- 10. The anger of the Lord was kindled against Uzzah, and he struck him down for touching the ark. He died right there before God.
- 11. David was grieved because the Lord had struck down Uzzah with his anger. And to this day this place is called Pérez-Uzá.
- 12. That day David was afraid of God and asked, “How can I bring the ark of God to me?”
- 13. So David did not bring the ark to the City of David, but took it to the house of Obed-edom in Gath.
- 14. The ark of God remained with Obed-Edom's family in their house for three months, and the Lord blessed Obed-Edom's house and everything that belonged to him.
