The descendants of Judah
- 1. These were the children of Israel: Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun,
- 2. Dan, Joseph, Benjamin, Naphtali, Gad and Asher.
- 3. These were the sons of Judah: Er, Onan and Shelah. He had these three sons with a Canaanite woman, the daughter of Shuah. However, the Lord rebuked the wicked conduct of Er, the firstborn of Judah, and killed him.
- 4. Tamar, daughter-in-law of Judah, gave birth to Perez and Zerah. In total, Judah had five sons.
- 5. These were the sons of Perez: Hezron and Hamul.
- 6. These were the sons of Zerah: Zimri, Ethan, Heman, Calcol and Darda. There were five in total.
- 7. The son of Carmi was Achar, who brought disgrace on Israel by violating the prohibition against taking possession of consecrated things.
- 8. This was the son of Ethan: Azariah.
- 9. The sons born to Hezron were Jerameel, Ram and Caleb.
- 10. Ram begat Amminadab, and Amminadab begat Nahshon, the leader of the tribe of Judah.
- 11. Nahshon begot Salmon, Salmon begot Boaz,
- 12. Boaz begat Obed, and Obed begat Jesse.
- 13. Jesse fathered Eliab, his firstborn; the second was Abinadab; the third, Shimea;
- 14. the fourth, Nathanael; the fifth, Radai;
- 15. the sixth, Ozém; and the seventh, David.
- 16. Their sisters were Zeruiah and Abigail. Zeruiah's three sons were Abishai, Joab and Asahel.
- 17. Abigail gave birth to Amasa, son of the Ishmaelite Jether.
- 18. Caleb son of Hezron had a daughter named Jerioth by his wife Azuba. The sons of Azuba were Jesher, Sobabe and Ardom.
- 19. When Azuba died, Caleb took Ephrath as his wife, who bore him a son named Hur.
- 20. Hur begot Uri, and Uri begat Bezalel.
- 21. After this Hezron, when he was sixty years old, took the daughter of Machir, the father of Gilead, to wife, and she bore him a son named Segub.
- 22. Segub begat Jair, who ruled twenty-three cities in Gilead.
- 23. Geshur and Aram took from them the villages of Jair, as well as Kenath and his towns, sixty cities in all. All of these were descendants of Machir, the father of Gilead.
- 24. After the death of Hezron in Caleb-Ephrath, Abia, Hezron's wife, gave him Asur, the founder of Tekoa.
- 25. These were the sons of Jerameel, the eldest son of Hezron: Ram the eldest, Buna, Orem, Ozhem and Ahijah.
- 26. Jerameel had another wife named Atara, who was the mother of Onan.
- 27. These were the sons of Ram, the eldest son of Jerameel: Maaz, Jamin and Eker.
- 28. These were the sons of Onan: Shamai and Jada. The sons of Samai were Nadab and Abishur.
- 29. The name of Abishur's wife was Abiail, and she bore him two sons, Aban and Molid.
- 30. These were the sons of Nadab: Sheled and Ahitan. Nadab died childless.
- 31. Ahithan's son was Ishi, the father of Sheshan, the father of Alai.
- 32. These were the sons of Jadah, Shammai's brother: Jether and Jonathan. Jether died without children.
- 33. These were the sons of Jonathan: Pelet and Zaza. These were the descendants of Jerameel.
- 34. Sheshan had no sons, only daughters. He had an Egyptian servant named Jarah.
- 35. Sheshan gave one of his daughters as a wife to Jarah, and she bore him a son named Atai.
- 36. Attai begat Nathan, Nathan begat Zabad,
- 37. Zabad begat Ephlal, Ephlah begat Obed,
- 38. Obed begat Jehu, Jehu begat Azariah,
- 39. Azariah begot Helez, Helez begat Eleasa,
- 40. Eleasa begot Sheismai, Sheismai begat Shallum,
- 41. Shallum begat Jecamiah, and Jecamiah begot Elishama.
Caleb's descendants
- 42. These were the sons of Caleb, the brother of Jerameel: Mesha, the eldest, who was the father of Ziph; and Mareshah, the father of Hebron.
- 43. The sons of Hebron were Korah, Tapua, Rechem and Shema.
- 44. Shema begat Raam, the father of Jorcoam. Rechem begat Shamai.
- 45. The son of Shammai was Muhammad, and Muhammad was the father of Beth-Zur.
- 46. Caleb's concubine Ephah gave birth to Haran, Mozah, and Gazez. Haran begat Gazez.
- 47. These were the sons of Jadai: Regem, Jotham, Geshan, Pelete, Ephah and Shaaph.
- 48. Caleb's concubine Maacah gave birth to Seber and Tiranah.
- 49. She also had Saaphe, the father of Madmana, and Seva, the father of Macbena and Gibeah. Caleb's daughter's name was Achsah.
- 50. Caleb also had these other descendants: The sons of Hur, the eldest son of Ephrath: Shobal, the founder of Kiriath-jearim,
- 51. Salma, the founder of Bethlehem, and Hareph, the founder of Bethgader.
- 52. The descendants of Shobal, the founder of Kiriath-jearim, were the clans of Haroah, half of the Manaathites,
- 53. the clans of Kiriath-jearim, the Ithrites, the Potatites, the Sumateites and the Misraites. From these clans descended the Zoratites and the Staolites.
- 54. The descendants of Salma: Bethlehem, the people of Netofah, Ataroth-Beth-Joab, the Manaathites, the Zorites
- 55. and the clans of scribes who lived in Jabez: the Tirathites, the Simeathites and the Sukkahites. These are the Kenites, descendants of Hamath, ancestor of Rechab's family.
