Psalm of David.

  • 1. The ark of God was brought and placed in the tent that David had prepared for it. There, they offered burnt offerings and communion sacrifices before God.
  • 2. After the burnt offerings and communion sacrifices, David blessed the people in the name of the Lord.
  • 3. He distributed a loaf of bread, a date cake, and a raisin cake to every man and woman in Israel.
  • 4. David appointed some of the Levites to minister before the ark of the Lord, offering petitions, giving thanks and praising the Lord, the God of Israel.
  • 5. Among them were Asaph the leader, Zechariah second, and then Jeiel, Shemiramoth, Jeiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, Obed-Edom and Jeiel. They were to play lyres and harps while Asaph played the cymbals.
  • 6. The priests Benaiah and Jahaziel blew the trumpets before the ark of the covenant of God every day.
  • 7. That day, for the first time, David commissioned Asaph and his relatives to offer psalms of gratitude to the Lord:
  • 8. “Give thanks to the Lord, call on his name; count his deeds among the nations.
  • 9. Sing to Him, sing praises; talk about all its wonders.
  • 10. Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice.
  • 11. Seek the Lord and his strength; always seek his presence.
  • 12. Remember the wonders He performed, His wonders, and the words on His lips,
  • 13. O descendants of Israel, his servants, O sons of Jacob, his chosen ones.
  • 14. He is the Lord our God; his dominion encompasses the whole earth.
  • 15. Remember His covenant forever, the agreement He established for a thousand generations,
  • 16. of the covenant he made with Abraham and the oath he swore to Isaac.
  • 17. He confirmed the same to Jacob as a decree and to Israel as an everlasting covenant, saying:
  • 18. 'I will give you the land of Canaan as your inheritance.'
  • 19. When they were few in number, few and strangers in the land,
  • 20. when they still went from nation to nation, from one kingdom to another people,
  • 21. He did not allow anyone to oppress them; out of love for them he rebuked kings, saying:
  • 22. 'Do not touch my anointed; do not mistreat my prophets'.
  • 23. Sing to the Lord, all you inhabitants of the earth! Proclaim your salvation day after day!
  • 24. Proclaim his glory among the nations; declare your wonderful deeds among all people!
  • 25. For the Lord is great and worthy of all praise, he is to be feared more than all gods.
  • 26. For all the gods of the nations are idols, but the Lord made the heavens.
  • 27. Majesty and splendor are before him; strength and joy are in your dwelling.
  • 28. Give unto the Lord, O families of the nations, give unto the Lord glory and strength!
  • 29. Give the Lord the glory due to his name; bring offerings and come into his presence; worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness.
  • 30. Tremble before him, all lands! The world is firm, it will not be shaken!
  • 31. Let the heavens be glad, and the earth be glad; and say among the nations, 'The Lord reigns!'
  • 32. Let the sea and everything in it resound; Let the fields and everything in them rejoice!
  • 33. Then the trees of the forest will sing for joy before the Lord, for He comes to judge the earth.
  • 34. Thank the Lord, for He is good; Your love lasts forever.
  • 35. Cry out, 'Save us, O God, our Savior; gather us together and deliver us from the nations, so that we may give thanks to your holy name and rejoice in your praise.'
  • 36. Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting!” And all the people said, “Amen!” and “Praise the Lord!”
  • 37. David left Asaph and his relatives to minister before the ark of the covenant of the Lord, regularly, as each day required.
  • 38. Obed-Edom and sixty-eight of his relatives were left to help them. Obed-Edom, son of Jeduthun, and Hosah also served as gatekeepers.
  • 39. David left Zadok the priest and his relatives the priests before the tabernacle of the Lord in Gibeon.
  • 40. There they were to present burnt offerings to the Lord on the altar of burnt offerings, regularly, morning and evening, according to everything that was written in the Law of the Lord, which he gave to Israel.
  • 41. With them were Heman and Jeduthun, and others chosen and appointed to give thanks to the Lord, chanting: “His love endures forever.”
  • 42. Heman and Jeduthun were responsible for the trumpets, cymbals and other musical instruments for praising God. The sons of Jeduthun were appointed as gatekeepers.
  • 43. So all the people returned to their homes, and David also returned to bless his family.
