- 2. The children of Israel will celebrate the Passover at its appointed time.
- 3. On the fourteenth day of this month, in the twilight of the evening, at its appointed time, you shall do it; according to all his statutes and according to all his ordinances you shall do it.
- 4. Moses then told the children of Israel to keep the Passover.
- 5. And they kept the passover on the fourteenth day of the first month, at even, in the wilderness of Sinai; According to all that the Lord commanded Moses, so did the children of Israel.
- 6. And there were some who were defiled by the body of a dead man, so that they could not keep the passover that day; So they came before Moses and Aaron on the same day,
- 7. and the men said to him: We are defiled by the body of a dead man; why should we be excluded from presenting the Lord's offering at its appointed time, among the children of Israel?
- 8. And Moses said unto them, Wait, and I will hear what the Lord shall command you.
- 9. And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:
- 10. Speak to the children of Israel, saying: If any of you or of your descendants is unclean by reason of a dead body, or is on a journey far from you, yet he shall celebrate the Passover to the Lord.
- 11. In the second month, on the fourteenth day, in the evening, they will celebrate it; they shall eat it with unleavened bread and bitter herbs.
- 12. They will not leave anything of it until morning, nor will they break any bone of it; according to the whole statute of the Passover they shall celebrate it.
- 13. But whoever is clean, and is not on a journey, and fails to celebrate the Passover, that soul will be cut off from his people; because he did not offer the Lord's offering at his appointed time, he will bear his sin.
- 14. And when a foreigner dwells with you, and also celebrates the Passover to the Lord, according to the statute of the Passover and according to his rite, he shall celebrate it; there will be a statute for you, both for the foreigner and for the native of the land.
The cloud above the tabernacle
- 15. And on the day that the tabernacle was set up, the cloud covered the tabernacle over the tent of testimony; and in the evening it was over the tabernacle like the appearance of fire, until the morning.
- 16. Thus it happened continually: the cloud covered him, and at night there was the appearance of fire.
- 17. And when the cloud lifted from the tent, then the children of Israel set out on their way; and in the place where the cloud stood, there the children of Israel pitched their tents.
- 18. According to the command of the Lord the children of Israel set out on their journey, and according to the command of the Lord they pitched their tents; For all the days that the cloud remained over the tabernacle, they camped.
- 19. And when the cloud remained many days over the tabernacle, then the children of Israel observed the ordinance of the Lord, and did not depart.
- 20. Sometimes the cloud remained over the tabernacle for a few days; then, according to the command of the Lord, they stopped, and according to the command of the Lord, they departed.
- 21. And sometimes the cloud was from evening until morning; and, rising in the morning, they set out; whether day or night, the cloud rising, they departed.
- 22. Or for two days, or for a month, or for many days, when the cloud stood over the tabernacle, and remained over it, the children of Israel camped and did not depart; However, when she got up, they left.
- 23. According to the command of the Lord they camped, and according to the command of the Lord they departed; They did their duty to the Lord, according to the commandment of the Lord through Moses.
