Psalms - Old Testament
Psalms – Old Testament
  • 1. Why have you abandoned us forever, O God? Why does your anger burn against the flock that is your property?
  • 2. Remember the people you acquired from ancient times, the tribe you redeemed as your inheritance, Mount Zion where you made your home.
  • 3. Direct your steps to the eternal ruins; all the evil that the enemy caused in the sanctuary.
  • 4. Your adversaries roar in your sanctuary; they raise their banners as signs of victory.
  • 5. They look like men armed with axes, cutting through thick wood.
  • 6. Using axes and sledgehammers, they destroyed all the wooden carvings.
  • 7. They set fire to your sanctuary; they have profaned the place where your name dwells.
  • 8. They said in their hearts, “We will completely destroy them!” And they burned all the sanctuaries of God on earth.
  • 9. We no longer see our miraculous signs; there are no more prophets, and no one among us knows how long this will last.
  • 10. How long, O God, will the adversary blaspheme? Will the enemy despise your name forever?
  • 11. Why do you hold back your hand, your right hand? Extend it and destroy them!
  • 12. But you, O God, have been my king from of old, bringing salvation to the earth.
  • 13. You divided the sea by your strength; you crushed the heads of sea monsters.
  • 14. You cut Leviathan's heads into pieces and gave them as food to the inhabitants of the desert.
  • 15. You opened springs and torrents; you dried up everlasting rivers.
  • 16. Yours is the day and yours is the night; You established the sun and the moon.
  • 17. You determined all the borders of the earth; you created summer and winter.
  • 18. Remember how the enemy has mocked you, O Lord, how the fools have blasphemed your name.
  • 19. Do not give the life of your dove to the wild animal; do not forget forever the lives of your afflicted ones.
  • 20. Look to your covenant, for the dark places of the earth are full of violence.
  • 21. Do not allow the oppressed to go away humiliated; may the poor and needy praise your name.
  • 22. Arise, O God, plead your cause; remember how fools mock you all day long.
  • 23. Do not ignore the shouting of your adversaries, the ever-increasing tumult of your enemies.
