  • 1. Free me from my enemies, O God; protect me from those who attack me.
  • 2. Save me from evildoers and deliver me from murderers.
  • 3. See how they watch for me! Cruel men conspire against me, although I have committed no transgression or sin, O Lord.
  • 4. Even though I am innocent, they are quick to prepare to attack me. Rise up to my aid; observe my situation!
  • 5. O Lord, God of hosts, God of Israel! Awaken to punish all nations; do not have compassion on wicked traitors.
  • 6. They return at dusk, growling like dogs and roaming the city.
  • 7. See how they make threats; his lips are like swords, saying, “Who will hear us?”
  • 8. But you, Lord, will laugh at them; you will mock all nations.
  • 9. O my strength, in you I will wait; You, O God, are my high strength.
  • 10. My merciful God will come to meet me and allow me to triumph over my enemies.
  • 11. Do not kill them, O Lord, our shield, otherwise my people will forget them. In your power, make them wander and cast them down.
  • 12. Because of the sins of your mouth, because of the words of your lips, be caught in your own arrogance. For their curses and lies they utter,
  • 13. consume them in your wrath, consume them until they are no more. Then it will be known to the ends of the earth that God reigns over Jacob.
  • 14. They return at dusk, growling like dogs and roaming the city.
  • 15. They look for food and, if they don't get enough, they howl.
  • 16. But I will sing praises to your strength; In the morning I will praise your faithfulness, for you are my high fortress, a safe refuge in difficult times.
  • 17. O my strength, I will praise you; You are, O God, my high strength, the God who loves me.
