Verses from Psalms, Chapter 39 of the book of Psalms in the Bible.

Psalms - Old Testament
Psalms – Old Testament
  • 1. I said: I will watch my way, and I will not sin with my words; I will put a gag in my mouth while the wicked stand before me.
  • 2. While I remained silent, resigned, my anguish increased to no avail; my heart burned within me, and as I meditated, the fire intensified. So I started saying:
  • 3. Show me, Lord, the end of my life and the measure of my days, so that I may understand how transitory I am.
  • 4. You determined my days like a large hand; the length of my life is nothing before you. In fact, the man is just a breath.
  • 5. Yes, every man walks like a shadow; in vain he agitates, accumulating riches, without knowing who will enjoy them.
  • 6. Now, Lord, for what shall I wait? My hope is in you.
  • 7. Deliver me from all my transgressions; do not expose me to the mockery of fools.
  • 8. I am silent, unable to open my mouth, because you are the one who acts.
  • 9. Take your punishment away from me; I was wounded by the blow of your hand.
  • 10. You rebuke and discipline man because of sin; like a moth, you destroy what he values most. In fact, the man is just a breath.
  • 11. Hear my prayer, Lord; hear my cry for help; Don't ignore my lament. For I am a stranger before you, a traveler like all my ancestors.
  • 12. Turn your gaze away from me, so that I may rejoice, before I go and be no more.
