Psalms - Old Testament
Psalms – Old Testament
  • 1. Defend me, Lord, from those who accuse me; fight against those who fight against me.
  • 2. Take up your shield and armor, stand up and come to my aid.
  • 3. Take up the sword and spear against my persecutors. Tell my soul: “I am your salvation”.
  • 4. May those who seek to take my life be humiliated and ashamed; let those who plot my evil turn back and be confused.
  • 5. May they be like chaff scattered by the wind, when the angel of the Lord drives them out;
  • 6. May their path be dark and slippery when the angel of the Lord pursues them.
  • 7. For without reason they laid a hidden trap for me and dug a pit for my soul without reason.
  • 8. May destruction come upon them suddenly; Let them be caught in the trap they have prepared, let them fall into the pit they have dug, to their own ruin.
  • 9. Then my soul will rejoice in the Lord and rejoice in his salvation.
  • 10. My whole being will exclaim: Who is like the Lord? He delivers the needy from those who are more powerful than he, he delivers the needy and the poor from those who spoil him.
  • 11. False witnesses rise up against me, accusing me of things I don't know about.
  • 12. They repay me good for evil, seeking to take my life.
  • 13. But when they were sick, I put on mourning, humbled myself with fasting, and prayed for myself.
  • 14. I was hunched over and crying, as if mourning a friend or brother. I dressed in mourning, as if I were crying for my mother.
  • 15. But when I stumbled, they rejoiced and gathered together against me; They attacked me without ceasing.
  • 16. They mocked me with scorn, they gnashed their teeth at me.
  • 17. Lord, how long will you keep watching? Free my soul from their attacks, save me from the lions.
  • 18. I will give thanks to you in the great assembly; among the crowd I will praise you.
  • 19. Do not allow those who are my enemies without cause to rejoice at my expense; do not allow those who hate me without reason to exchange looks of contempt.
  • 20. For they do not speak peaceably, but they plot false accusations against the peaceable people of the land.
  • 21. With their mouths wide open, they mock me and accuse me: “We saw it! We testify!”
  • 22. You saw this, Lord! Don't shut up. Don't distance yourself from me, Lord.
  • 23. Wake up! Rise up to do me justice! Defend my cause, my God and Lord.
  • 24. Lord, my God, you are righteous; grant me justice so that they will not rejoice over me.
  • 25. Don’t allow them to think: “Ah! That’s what we wanted!” and let them say: “We finished him off!”
  • 26. Let all who rejoice in my suffering be humiliated and confounded; covered with shame and dishonor are those who consider themselves superior to me.
  • 27. Sing for joy and rejoice, all who desire my innocence. Let them continually say: “The Lord may be magnified, he delights in the well-being of his servant.”
  • 28. My tongue will proclaim your righteousness and your praise all day long.
