The list of defeated kings

  • 1. These were the kings whom the Israelites defeated and whose lands they conquered east of the Jordan, from the Arnon River to Mount Hermon, including the entire region east of the Arabah:
  • 2. Sihon, the king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon. He ruled from Aroer, on the edge of the Arnon brook, to the middle of the brook and to the Jabbok River, which served as the border with the Ammonites. Their territory included half of Gilead.
  • 3. He also ruled the eastern Arabah, from the Sea of Chinereth to the Sea of Arabah, the Salt Sea, to Beth-Jeshimoth, and further south to the foot of the slopes of Mount Pisgah.
  • 4. They also conquered the territory of Og, the king of Bashan, one of the last Rephaim, who reigned in Ashteroth and Edrei.
  • 5. Og ruled Mount Hermon, Salcah, all of Bashan, as far as the border of the Geshurites and the Maachathites, and half of Gilead as far as the border of Sihon, the king of Heshbon.
  • 6. Moses, the servant of the Lord, and the Israelites defeated these kings. And Moses, the servant of the Lord, gave his land as an inheritance to the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and half the tribe of Manasseh.
  • 7. These are the kings whom Joshua and the Israelites defeated west of the Jordan, from Baal-Gad in the Valley of Lebanon to Mount Halak, which rises toward Seir. Joshua distributed these lands as an inheritance to the tribes of Israel, dividing them among them:
  • 8. The central mountain range, the Shephelah, the Arabah, the slopes of the mountains, the desert and the Negev – the lands of the Hittites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites.
  • 9. The king of Jericho, the king of Ai, near Bethel,
  • 10. the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron,
  • 11. the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish,
  • 12. the king of Eglon, the king of Gezer,
  • 13. the king of Debir, the king of Geder,
  • 14. the king of Hormah, the king of Arad,
  • 15. the king of Libnah, the king of Adullam,
  • 16. the king of Makkedah, the king of Bethel,
  • 17. the king of Tapua, the king of Hepher,
  • 18. the king of Aphek, the king of Lasaron,
  • 19. the king of Madon, the king of Hazor,
  • 20. the king of Sinrom-merom, the king of Acsaph,
  • 21. the king of Taanach, the king of Megiddo,
  • 22. the king of Kedesh, the king of Jocneon of Carmel,
  • 23. the king of Dor in Naphoth Dor, the king of Goiim in Gilgal,
  • 24. and the king of Tirzah. In all, thirty-one kings.
