  • 7. Jacob said: It is still very day, and it is not time to gather the cattle; give the sheep something to drink, and lead them to pasture.
  • 8. They said, We cannot, until all the flocks come together, and roll away the stone from the mouth of the well, that we may give the sheep water.
  • 9. While he was still speaking to them, Rachel arrived with her father's sheep, for she was the one who tended them.
  • 10. When Jacob saw Rachel, the daughter of Laban, his mother's brother, and the sheep of Laban, his mother's brother, he came and rolled away the stone from the mouth of the well, and gave water to the sheep of Laban, his mother's brother. your mother.

Jacob marries Leia and Raquel

  • 16. Now Laban had two daughters: the name of the older one was Leah, and the name of the younger one was Rachel.
  • 17. But Leah's eyes were gentle; Raquel, however, was beautiful in appearance and countenance.
  • 18. And Jacob loved Rachel; Then he said, Seven years will I serve you for Rachel, your youngest daughter.
  • 19. Laban answered: It is better that I give it to you than to another; stay with me.
  • 20. So Jacob served seven years for Rachel; and it seemed like a few days to him, because of how much he loved her.
  • 21. Then Jacob said to Laban, Give me my wife, for my time is fulfilled; so that I can possess it.

  • 24. Laban also gave his maid Zilpah to his daughter Leah, to be his maid.
  • 25. Now in the morning it was seen that it was Leah; wherefore he asked Laban, What is this that thou hast done to me? Have I not served you for Rachel? Why then did you deceive me?
  • 26. Laban answered: This is not done in our place, to give the youngest before the firstborn.
  • 27. Fulfill this week; then, we will also give you the other, for the work of another seven years that you will still serve me.
  • 28. And Jacob did so, and fulfilled the week of that; Then he gave him Rachel, his daughter, as his wife.
  • 29. And Laban gave his daughter Rachel for a servant to Bilhah his servant.
  • 30. Jacob also possessed Rachel, and he also loved Rachel more than Leah; and he served Laban another seven years.

Jacob's sons

  • 31. Now the Lord saw that Leah was despised, and he opened her womb; Rachel, however, was sterile.
  • 32. And Leah conceived and bare a son, and he called his name Reuben; for she said, Because the Lord hath seen my affliction, therefore now my husband will love me.
  • 33. And she conceived again, and bare a son, saying, Because the Lord heard that I was despised, he gave me this one also. That's why he called him Simeon.
  • 34. She conceived again and gave birth to a son, saying: Now this time my husband will be joined to me, because I have borne him three sons. That's why he called him Levi.
  • 35. And she conceived again, and bare a son, saying, This time I will praise the Lord. Therefore he called him Judah; and stopped having children.
