  • 1. “If a man marries a woman and then decides not to want her anymore because he finds something in her conduct that he disapproves of, he should give her a divorce paper and send her away.
  • 2. If, after leaving his house, she marries another man,
  • 3. and that second husband also doesn't like her anymore and gives her a divorce document, sending her away, or if the second husband dies,
  • 4. the first husband, who divorced her, will not be able to marry her again, as she is unclean. It would be an abomination to the Lord. Do not bring sin upon the land that the Lord your God has given you as an inheritance.
  • 5. “If a man has recently married, he will not be sent to war, nor will he be required to fulfill any public engagement. For a year, he will be free to stay at home and cheer up the woman he married.
  • 6. “Do not take as collateral for a debt the two stones of a mill, not even the top stone, as this would be taking the debtor's livelihood as collateral.
  • 7. “If anyone is caught kidnapping one of his fellow Israelites and treats him as a slave or sells him, the kidnapper will have to die. Eliminate evil from among you.
  • 8. “In cases of leprosy disease, carefully follow the instructions of the Levite priests. Faithfully carry out everything I have commanded them.
  • 9. Remember what the Lord your God did to Miriam on the way after you left Egypt.
  • 10. “When you give someone a loan, don't go into their house to take out a pledge.
  • 11. Stay outside and let the person receiving the loan bring the pledge to you.
  • 12. If the person is poor, do not sleep with their pledge.
  • 13. Return the pledge at sunset, so that she can use it as a blanket at night, and the person will thank you. This will be considered an act of righteousness before the Lord your God.
  • 14. “Do not take advantage of the poor and needy, whether he is a fellow Israelite or a foreigner living in your cities.
  • 15. Pay him his wages daily before sunset, for he is poor and depends on it. Otherwise, he may cry out to the Lord against you, and you will be guilty of sin.
  • 16. “Parents will not be killed in place of their children, nor children in place of their parents. Everyone will die for their own sin.
  • 17. “Do not withhold justice from the stranger or the orphan, nor take the widow's cloak as a pledge.
  • 18. Remember that you were slaves in Egypt and the Lord your God freed you. Therefore I command you to do these things.
  • 19. “When you gather your harvest in the field and forget to pick up a sheaf of wheat, do not go back for it. Leave it for the stranger, the orphan and the widow, so that the Lord your God may bless you in all the work of your hands.
  • 20. When you shake the olives off your olive trees, do not go back and get what is left on the branches. Leave it for the stranger, the orphan and the widow.
  • 21. In the same way, when you harvest the grapes in your vineyard, do not return to gather the bunches that remain. Leave them for the stranger, the orphan and the widow.
  • 22. Remember that you were slaves in Egypt. Therefore I command you to do these things.
