The descendants of Levi

• 1. These were the sons of Levi: Gershom, Kohath and Merari.
• 2. These were the sons of Kohath: Amram, Isar, Hebron and Uzziel.
• 3. These were the sons of Amram: Aaron, Moses and Miriam. These were the sons of Aaron: Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.
• 4. Eleazar begat Phinehas, Phinehas begat Abishua,
• 5. Abishua begat Buqui, Buqui begat Uzi,
• 6. Uzi begat Zeraiah, Zeraiah begat Meraioth,
• 7. Meraioth begat Amariah, Amariah begot Ahitub,
• 8. Ahitub begat Zadok, Zadok begat Ahimaaz,
• 9. Ahimaaz begat Azariah, Azariah begat Johanan,
• 10. Johanan fathered Azariah – who was a priest in the temple built by Solomon in Jerusalem –,
• 11. Azariah begat Amariah, Amariah begot Ahitub,
• 12. Ahitub begot Zadok, Zadok begat Shallum,
• 13. Shallum begat Hilkiah, Hilkiah begat Azariah,
• 14. Azariah begat Seraiah, and Seraiah begat Jehozadak.
• 15. Jehozadak was taken prisoner when the Lord sent Judah and Jerusalem into exile through Nebuchadnezzar.
• 16. These were the sons of Levi: Gershom, Kohath and Merari.
• 17. These are the names of Gershon's sons: Libni and Shimei.
• 18. These were the sons of Kohath: Amram, Isar, Hebron and Uzziel.
• 19. These were the sons of Merari: Mali and Musi. These are the clans of the Levites listed according to their ancestors:
• 20. Of Gershon: His son Libni, who was the father of Jahath, the father of Zimah,
• 21. who was the father of Joah, the father of Iddo, the father of Zerah, who was the father of Jeaterai.
• 22. Of Kohath: His son Amminadab, father of Korah, who was the father of Assir,
• 23. father of Elkanah, father of Ebiasaph, who was the father of Assir,
• 24. father of Tahath, father of Uriel, father of Uzziah, who was the father of Saul.
• 25. From Elkanah: Amasai, Ahimoth
• 26. and Elkanah, the father of Zophai, the father of Nahath,
• 27. who was the father of Eliab, the father of Jeroam, the father of Elkanah, who was the father of Samuel.
• 28. From Samuel: Joel, the oldest, and Abijah, the second.
• 29. From Merari: Mali, the father of Libni, the father of Shimei, who was the father of Uzzah,
• 30. father of Shimea, father of Hagias, who was the father of Asaiah.

The temple musicians

• 31. These are the men whom David commissioned to lead the songs in the temple of the Lord after the ark was taken there.
• 32. They worshiped before the tabernacle, the Tent of Meeting, until Solomon built the temple of the Lord in Jerusalem. They performed their duties in accordance with established standards.
• 33. These are those who ministered, together with their sons: Among the Kohathites: The musician Heman, son of Joel, son of Samuel,
• 34. son of Elkanah, son of Jeroam, son of Eliel, son of Toah,
• 35. son of Zuph, son of Elkanah, son of Maath, son of Amasai,
• 36. son of Elkanah, son of Joel, son of Azariah, son of Zephaniah,
• 37. son of Tahath, son of Assir, son of Ebiasaph, son of Korah,
• 38. son of Isar, son of Kohath, son of Levi, son of Israel.
• 39. On the right hand of Heman was his relative Asaph, son of Berekiah, son of Shimea,
• 40. son of Michael, son of Baaseiah,
• 41. son of Malkiah, son of Ethni, son of Zerah, son of Adaiah,
• 42. son of Ethan, son of Zimah,
• 43. son of Shimei, son of Jahath, son of Gershon, son of Levi.
• 44. Among the Merarites:
• 45. On the left of Heman, a kinsman of the Merarites, was Ethan the son of Kishi, the son of Abdi, the son of Maluch, the son of Hashabiah, the son of Amaziah, the son of Hilkiah,
• 46. son of Anzi, son of Bani,
• 47. son of Shemer, son of Mali, son of Musi, son of Merari, son of Levi.
• 48. Their relatives, the other Levites, were in charge of all the service of the tabernacle, the temple of God.
• 49. But it was Aaron and his descendants who took care of the sacrifices on the altar of burnt offering, the offerings on the altar of incense, and all the service in the Most Holy Place, as well as the sacrifices of propitiation for Israel, according to everything that Moses, the servant of God, , had ordered.
• 50. These were the descendants of Aaron: his son Eleazar, father of Phinehas, who was the father of Abishua,
• 51. father of Buki, father of Uzzi, who was the father of Zeraiah,
• 52. father of Meraioth, father of Amariah, who was the father of Ahitub,
• 53. father of Zadok, father of Ahimaaz.
• 54. These were the cities and regions given to the Levites to live in. Among Aaron's descendants, the Kohathite clan was drawn first;
• 55. Hebron was given to him in Judah, with its pasture lands around it.
• 56. But the fields and the villages around the city were given to Caleb son of Jephunneh.
• 57. So the descendants of Aaron received Hebron, a city of refuge, and Libnah, Jatir, Eshthemoa,
• 58. Hilem, Debir,
• 59. Ashan, Jutah and Beth Shemesh, with their respective pastures.
• 60. And from the tribe of Benjamin they received Gibeon, Geba, Alemeth and Anathoth, with their respective pastures. In total thirteen cities were distributed among their clans.
• 61. For the remaining descendants of Kohath, ten cities belonging to the clans of half of the tribe of Manasseh were drawn.
• 62. For the descendants of Gershon, clan by clan, thirteen cities were drawn by lot from the tribes of Issachar, Asher and Naphtali, and from the half of the tribe of Manasseh that is in Bashan.
• 63. For the descendants of Merari, clan by clan, twelve cities were drawn by lot from the tribes of Reuben, Gad and Zebulun.
• 64. So the Israelites gave the Levites these cities with their respective pastures.
• 65. The cities mentioned above in the territories of Judah, Simeon and Benjamin were also given to them by lot.
• 66. Some of the Kohathite clans received the following cities in the territory of the tribe of Ephraim:
• 67. Shechem, a city of refuge in the mountains of Ephraim, and Gezer,
• 68. Jocmaeon, Beth Horom,
• 69. Aijalon and Gathrimmon, with their respective pastures.
• 70. And from half the tribe of Manasseh the rest of the Kohathite clans received Aner and Bilehan, with their respective pastures.
• 71. The Gershonites received the following cities: From the clan of half the tribe of Manasseh, Golan, in Bashan, and also Ashteroth, with their respective pastures;
• 72. from the tribe of Issachar, Kedesh, Daberath,
• 73. Ramoth and Aném, with their respective pastures;
• 74. from the tribe of Asher, Masal, Abdon,
• 75. Hucoque and Rehob, with their respective pastures;
• 76. and from the tribe of Naphtali, Kedesh in Galilee, Hamon and Kiriathaim, with their pasture lands.
• 77. And these were the cities that the other Merarites received: From the tribe of Zebulun, Rimmon and Tabor, with their respective pastures;
• 78. from the tribe of Reuben, on the other side of the Jordan, east of Jericho, Bezer, in the wilderness, Jaza,
• 79. Kedemote and Mephaate, with their respective pastures;
• 80. and from the tribe of Gad, Ramoth, in Gilead, Mahanaim,
• 81. Heshbon and Jazar, with their respective pastures.
