Arrangement of tribes when camped

  • 1. And the LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying:
  • 2. Each of the children of Israel will camp under his banner, with the ensigns of the house of his fathers; around the tent of the congregation they will camp.
  • 3. Those who camp on the eastern side, towards the east, will be the armies of Judah, according to their squadrons; and the prince of the children of Judah will be Nahasson the son of Amminadab.
  • 4. And his army, and those that were numbered of them, were seventy-four thousand and six hundred.
  • 5. And those who camp near him will be the tribe of Issachar; and the prince of the children of Issachar will be Nathanael the son of Zuar.
  • 6. And his army, and those that were numbered of them, were fifty and four thousand and four hundred.
  • 7. The tribe of Zebulun; and the prince of the children of Zebulun will be Eliab the son of Helon.
  • 8. And his army, and those that were numbered of them, were fifty and seven thousand and four hundred.
  • 9. All the number of the army of Judah were one hundred and eighty-six thousand and four hundred; these will march first.
  • 10. On the southern side will be the army of the tribe of Reuben, according to their squadrons; and the prince of the children of Reuben will be Elizur the son of Shedeur.
  • 11. And his army, and those that were numbered of them, were forty-six thousand and five hundred.
  • 12. The tribe of Simeon will camp next to him; and the prince of the sons of Simeon will be Shelumiel the son of Zurisadai.
  • 13. And his army, and those that were numbered of them, were fifty-nine thousand and three hundred.
  • 14. The tribe of Gad; and the prince of the children of Gad will be Eliasaph the son of Deuel.
  • 15. And his army, and those that were numbered of them, were forty-five thousand six hundred and fifty.
  • 16. All those numbered in the army of Reuben were one hundred and fifty-one thousand, four hundred and fifty; these will march second.
  • 17. Then the Levites will march to the tent of meeting, in the midst of the armies; as they encamp, so will each march in his place, under his flags.
  • 18. The army of Ephraim, according to its divisions, will be to the west; and the prince of the children of Ephraim will be Elishama the son of Ammihud.
  • 19. And his army, and those that were numbered of them, were forty and one thousand and five hundred.
  • 20. Next to him will be the tribe of Manasseh; and the prince of the children of Manasseh will be Gamaliel the son of Pedazur.
  • 21. And his army, and those that were numbered of them, were thirty and two thousand and two hundred.
  • 22. The tribe of Benjamin; and the prince of the children of Benjamin will be Abidan the son of Gideoni.
  • 23. And his army, and those that were numbered of them, were thirty and five thousand and four hundred.
  • 24. All the number of the army of Ephraim were one hundred and eight thousand and one hundred; these will march in third place.
  • 25. On the north side will be the army of the tribe of Dan, according to their squadrons; and the prince of the children of Dan will be Aieser the son of Amisadai.
  • 26. And his army, and those that were numbered of them, were threescore and two thousand and seven hundred.
  • 27. The tribe of Asher will camp next to him; and the prince of the children of Asher will be Pagiel the son of Ocran.
  • 28. And his army, and those that were numbered of them, were forty and one thousand and five hundred.
  • 29. The tribe of Naphtali; and the prince of the children of Naphtali will be Ahirah son of Enan.
  • 30. And his army, and those that were numbered of them, were fifty and three thousand and four hundred.
  • 31. All the number of the army of Dan were one hundred and fifty-seven thousand and six hundred; these will march last, according to their flags.
  • 32. These are the number of the children of Israel, according to their fathers' houses; all the number of armies in their hosts were six hundred and three thousand, five hundred and fifty.
  • 33. But the Levites were not numbered among the children of Israel, as the LORD commanded Moses.
  • 34. And the children of Israel did according to all that the LORD commanded Moses; so they encamped according to their flags, and so they marched, each one according to their families, according to the house of their fathers.
