Vestments for priests

  • 1. And you, bring to you Aaron your brother, and his sons with you, from among the children of Israel, to minister to me in the priest's office; namely: Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar, the sons of Aaron.
  • 2. And thou shalt make holy garments for Aaron thy brother, for glory and beauty.
  • 3. You shall also speak to all the wise in heart, whom I have filled with the spirit of wisdom, to make Aaron's garments, to consecrate him to my priesthood.
  • 4. These are the garments that they will make: a breastplate, an ephod, a mantle, an embroidered tunic, a miter and a belt. They will therefore make holy garments for your brother Aaron and his sons, to minister to me in the priestly office.

The ephod

  • 5. And they shall take gold, and purple, and crimson, and fine linen.
  • 6. And they will make the ephod of gold, and of purple, and of crimson, and of fine twined linen, like the work of an embroiderer.
  • 7. It will have two shoulder pieces, which join its two ends, and it will be united in this way.
  • 8. And the girdle of the ephod, which shall be upon it, shall be of the same workmanship, of the same matter, of gold, and purple, and scarlet, and of fine twined linen.
  • 9. And you shall take two onyx stones, and engrave on them the names of the children of Israel:
  • 10. six of their names on one stone, and the other six names on the other stone, according to the order of their birth.
  • 11. According to the work of the engraver of stones, like the engraver of seals, you shall engrave the two stones with the names of the children of Israel; surrounded with settings of gold you will make them made.
  • 12. And thou shalt put the two stones upon the shoulders of the ephod, for stones of remembrance to the children of Israel; and Aaron will bear their names before the LORD on his two shoulders for remembrance.
  • 13. And you shall make settings of gold,
  • 14. and two pure chains of gold, of worked cords thou shalt make them; and thou shalt put the chains of cords in the settings.

The breastplate

  • 15. You shall also make the breastplate of judgment, the work of an embroiderer; according to the work of the ephod you will do; of gold, and of purple, and of crimson, and of fine twined linen thou shalt make it.
  • 16. Square will be double; its length is a span, and its width is a span.
  • 17. And you shall set stones in it, four rows of stones; a row of sardius, topaz and carbuncle will be the first row;
  • 18. and the second row, an emerald, sapphire and diamond;
  • 19. and the third row, a hyacinth, an agate and an amethyst;
  • 20. and the fourth row, a beryl, an onyx and a jasper; they will all be set in gold for their settings.
  • 21. And the stones shall be according to the names of the children of Israel, twelve, according to their names; each according to its name will be like the prints on a seal, according to their names, for the twelve tribes.
  • 22. And thou shalt make upon the breastplate chains at the end thereof, the work of braiding cord of pure gold.
  • 23. You shall also make two rings of gold on the breastplate, and put the two rings on the ends of the breastplate.
  • 24. And you shall put the two golden chains on the two rings at the ends of the breastplate.
  • 25. And you shall put the other two ends of the two chains in the two settings, and put them on the shoulders of the ephod, in front of its face.
  • 26. You shall also make two rings of gold, which you shall put on the two ends of the breastplate, on its edge, which is on the inside of the ephod.
  • 27. And you shall make two rings of gold, which you shall put on the two shoulder pieces of the ephod, underneath, in front of its edge, near its junction, on the girdle of the ephod.
  • 28. And they shall bind the breastplate by its rings to the rings of the ephod with a cord of blue, so that it may be upon the girdle of the ephod, and the breastplate of the ephod shall not come loose.
  • 29. So Aaron will bear the names of the children of Israel on the breastplate of judgment upon his heart, when he enters the sanctuary, as a memorial before the LORD continually.
  • 30. You shall also place the Urim and the Thummim in the breastplate of judgment, so that they may be on Aaron's heart when he comes before the LORD; So Aaron will bear the judgment of the children of Israel upon his heart before the LORD continually.

Other priestly vestments

  • 31. You will also make the ephod's cloak all blue.
  • 32. And in the middle of it there will be an opening like the mouth of a coat of mail; This opening will have lace woven around its edge, so that it does not break.
  • 33. And on the borders of the robe you will make pomegranates of blue, purple and crimson, around the edges of it; and golden bells in the midst of them all around;
  • 34. a golden bell and a pomegranate, another golden bell and another pomegranate, on the edges of the robe all around.
  • 35. And he will be over Aaron to minister to him; so that his voice may be heard when he enters the sanctuary before the LORD, and when he leaves, so that he does not die.
  • 36. You will also make a plate of pure gold, and you will engrave on it as a seal is engraved: HOLINESS TO THE LORD.
  • 37. And thou shalt put it with a blue cord, that it may be on the miter; depending on the shape of the miter it will be, it will be in front of the miter.
  • 38. And it shall be upon Aaron's forehead, that Aaron may bear the iniquity of the holy things, which the children of Israel have sanctified in all their holy gifts; and it will be continually on their foreheads, so that they may be accepted before the LORD.
  • 39. You shall also weave the tunic of fine linen, and make the linen cloak with a pattern of cloth; You will also make an embroiderer's belt.
  • 40. And thou shalt make coats for Aaron's sons; you shall also make them girdles, and make them headbands, for honor and ornament.
  • 41. And from them you shall make garments for your brother Aaron and his sons, to minister to me in the priestly office.
  • 42. And thou shalt make them linen trousers, to cover the flesh of their nakedness; from the loins to the thighs, they will be.
  • 43. And they will be over Aaron and over his sons, when they enter the tent of meeting, or when they come to the altar to minister in the sanctuary; lest they bear iniquity and die; This will be a statute for ever for him and for his descendants after him.
