Verses from Psalms, Chapter 49 of the book of Psalms in the Bible.
- 1. Hear this, all you peoples; Listen, all you inhabitants of this land,
- 2 .both the common people and the powerful, the rich and the poor together:
- 3.My mouth will speak with wisdom, and the meditation of my heart will bring understanding.
- 4. I will incline my ear to a proverb; with the harp I will unravel my riddle:
- 5. Why should I fear in evil days, when the iniquity of my persecutors surrounds me,
- 6. those who trust in their wealth and boast about the abundance of their possessions?
- 7. No one can in any way redeem his brother or give God a ransom for his life,
- 8. because the ransom of a soul is expensive, and it will never be possible to pay
- 9. that he may live forever and not see corruption.
- 10. For it is seen that wise men die, just as a fool and a fool perish, and they leave their wealth to others.
- 11. Their tombs are their homes forever, their homes from generation to generation, although they gave their name to their lands.
- 12. Man, even in his honor, does not remain; It is like animals that perish.
- 13 This is the way of those who trust in themselves, and of those who follow their own path: they are destined for darkness and death.
- 14. Like sheep, they are destined for the grave, and death will be their shepherd. The upright will dominate them in the morning; the grave will be your home.
- 15. But God will redeem my life from the grave; he will receive me.
- 16. Do not be afraid when someone becomes rich, when the glory of his house increases;
- 17. for when he dies, he will take nothing with him; his glory will not descend with him.
- 18. Even if, in life, he praises himself and is praised when he does good for himself,
- 19. he will join his ancestors, who will never see the light again.
- 20. Man, even in his honor, has no understanding; It is like animals that perish.
