Verses from Psalms, Chapter 137 of the book of Psalms in the Bible.
- 1. Sitting by the rivers of Babylon, we weep with longing for Zion.
- 2. There, among the willows, we hung our harps.
- 3. The oppressors asked us for songs, and our captors demanded joyful songs, saying, “Sing us one of the songs of Zion!”
- 4. However, how could we sing the songs of the Lord in a foreign land?
- 5. May my right hand lose its skill, O Jerusalem, if I forget you!
- 6. May my tongue cling to the roof of my mouth if I fail to remember you, O Jerusalem, my greatest joy!
- 7. Lord, remember the Edomites and what they did when Jerusalem was destroyed, crying out, “Destroy it! Demolish it to its foundations!”
- 8. O city of Babylon, destined for destruction, happy will be the one who repays you for the evil you did to us!
- 9. Happy is he who seizes your children and dashes them against the rock!
