  • 1. My son, do not forget my law, keep my commandments in your heart;
  • 2. for they will prolong your days and add years of life and peace to you.
  • 3. May love and fidelity never leave you; tie them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart.
  • 4. In this way you will obtain favor and a good reputation before God and men.
  • 5. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
  • 6. acknowledge him in all your ways, and he will make your paths straight.
  • 7. Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and depart from evil.
  • 8. This will be medicine for your body and refreshing for your bones.
  • 9. Honor the Lord with your possessions and with the firstfruits of all your income;
  • 10. so your barns will be filled with plenty, and your presses will overflow with new wine.
  • 11. My son, do not reject the discipline of the Lord, nor be weary of his rebuke;
  • 12. for the Lord rebukes the one he loves, just as a father rebukes the son he loves well.
  • 13. Blessed is the man who finds wisdom, and the man who acquires knowledge;
  • 14. for his merchandise is better than articles of silver, and his profit is greater than the finest gold.
  • 15. More precious than pearls; and everything you can desire cannot compare to it.
  • 16. In his right hand are length of days; on his left, riches and honor.
  • 17. His ways are delightful paths, and all his paths are peace.
  • 18. Wisdom is a tree of life to those who obtain it, and blessed is he who retains it.
  • 19. The Lord founded the earth in wisdom; with intelligence he established the heavens.
  • 20. By his knowledge the waters are divided, and the clouds drop the dew.
  • 21. My son, do not let these things depart from your eyes: fear the Lord and depart from evil.
  • 22. This will be health for your body and refreshment for your bones.
  • 23. Guard your heart with all diligence, for from it come the springs of life.
  • 24. Turn away from you the wickedness of your mouth, and put away from you the wickedness of your lips.
  • 25. Let your eyes look straight ahead, and your eyelids look straight ahead of you.
  • 26. Consider the path of your feet, and let all your ways be straight.
  • 27. Do not lean to the right or to the left; remove your foot from evil.
  • 28. Do not argue with someone without reason, if he has not done you any harm.
  • 29. Do not envy a violent man, nor choose any of his ways;
  • 30. for the wicked is an abomination to the Lord, but his secret is with the upright.
  • 31. The house of the wicked will be destroyed, but the tent of the upright will flourish.
  • 32. From mockery to mockery they will mock, but favor finds with the humble.
  • 33. The Lord hates the wicked, but he who has integrity is his secret.
  • 34. Surely he will mock the mockers, but he will give grace to the meek.
  • 35. The wise will inherit honor, but the foolish will be ashamed.
