Numbers - Old Testament
Numbers – Old Testament
  • 1. When Balaam saw that it was the LORD's pleasure to bless Israel, he no longer went as before to seek omens; but he turned his face towards the desert.
  • 2. When Balaam lifted up his eyes, and saw Israel encamped according to their tribes, the Spirit of God came upon him.
  • 3. Then he lifted up his proverb and said, The word of Balaam, the son of Beor, and the word of the man with open eyes;
  • 4. Word of him who hears the words of God, and knows the knowledge of the Most High; of him who sees the vision of the Almighty, who falls, but his eyes are open.
  • 5. How beautiful are your tabernacles, O Jacob, your dwellings, O Israel!
  • 6. How valleys are spread out, like gardens by the river, like sandalwood trees, which the LORD planted, like cedars by the waters!
  • 7. Waters will flow from their buckets, and their seed will be in many waters; and his king will exalt himself above Agag, and his kingdom will be great.
  • 8. God brought them out of Egypt; his strength is like that of a wild ox; he will devour the nations that are enemies to him and will break their bones and strike them with his arrows.
  • 9. Lying down, he lay down like a lion and like a lioness; who will awaken him? Blessed be those who bless you and cursed be those who curse you.
  • 10. Then Balak's anger was kindled against Balaam, and he clapped his hands, and said to Balaam, To curse my enemies I called thee; but behold, you have blessed them in every way.
  • 11. Now therefore flee to your place; well I told you that, at that time, I would honor you greatly; but behold, the LORD has deprived you of this honor.
  • 12. Balaam said to Balak, Have I not also spoken to the messengers whom you sent me, saying:
  • 13. Even if Balak gave me his house full of silver and gold, I could not go beyond the commandment of the LORD, for better or for worse, of my own mind; What the LORD says, will I speak?
  • 14. Now, behold, I go to my people; Come therefore, and I will warn you what this people will do to your people in the last days.

Balaam's fourth prophecy

  • 15. And lifting up his proverb, he said: The word of Balaam, the son of Beor, and the word of the man with open eyes,
  • 16. Word of him who hears the words of God and knows the knowledge of the Most High, and who sees the vision of the Almighty, who falls, but his eyes are open.
  • 17. I see him, but not now; I contemplate it, but not closely; a star will come from Jacob, and a scepter will rise from Israel, which will strike the borders of the Moabites and destroy all the children of Seth.
  • 18. Edom will be possessed, Seir will be possessed by his enemies; but Israel will behave boldly.
  • 19. He who had dominion came out of Jacob and destroyed the rest of the city.

Balaam's final prophecy

  • 20. And when Amalek saw it, he took his proverb and said, Amalek was the first of the people; but its end will be eternal destruction.
  • 21. When he saw the Kenites, he took his proverb and said: Your dwelling is firm, and you have set your nest in the rock.
  • 22. However, the Kenite will be burned, until he devastates Asshur and takes Israel captive.
  • 23. Lifting up his proverb, he said: Alas! Who will live when God does this?
  • 24. And they will sail ships from Chittim, and they will afflict Asshur, and they will afflict Eber; he also will go to destruction.
  • 25. Then Balaam arose and went away, and returned to his place; and Balak also went his way.
