The ordination of Aaron and his sons

  • 1. The Lord said to Moses:
  • 2. Take Aaron and his sons with him, and the garments, and the anointing oil, and the bull of the sin offering, and the two rams, and the basket of unleavened bread,
  • 3. And gather all the congregation together at the door of the tent of meeting.
  • 4. And Moses did as the Lord commanded him; and the congregation gathered together at the door of the tent of meeting.
  • 5. Then Moses said to the congregation: This is what the Lord has commanded to be done.
  • 6. And Moses brought Aaron and his sons, and washed them with water.
  • 7. And he put on his tunic, and girded him with the girdle, and put on his surplice, and put on him the ephod; and he girded him with the girdle of the ephod, with which he fastened him.
  • 8. And he put the breastplate on his ephod, and he put on the breastplate the Urim and the Thummim.
  • 9. And he put the miter on his head, and on the miter, in its front part, he placed the golden plate, the crown of holiness, as the Lord commanded Moses.
  • 10. Then Moses took the anointing oil, and anointed the tabernacle, and everything in it, and sanctified it.
  • 11. And he sprinkled it seven times on the altar, and anointed the altar and all its utensils, as well as the laver and its base, to sanctify them.
  • 12. And he poured some of the anointing oil on Aaron's head, and anointed him to sanctify him.
  • 13. And Moses brought Aaron's sons, and put coats on them, and girded them with sash, and fastened their headbands, as the Lord commanded Moses.
  • 14. Then he brought the bull of sin offering; and Aaron and his sons laid their hands on the head of the bull of the sin offering;
  • 15. And Moses beheaded him, and took his blood, and put it with his finger upon the horns of the altar round about, and purified the altar; then he spilled the rest of the blood at the foot of the altar; and sanctified him, to make atonement for him.
  • 16. And he took all the fat that was on the entrails, and the casing of the liver, and the two kidneys, and the fat thereof, and Moses burned them on the altar.
  • 17. But the bull, with its skin, its flesh, and its dung, he burned outside the camp, as the Lord commanded Moses.
  • 18. Then he brought the ram for the burnt offering; and Aaron and his sons laid their hands on the ram's head.
  • 19. And Moses beheaded him, and sprinkled his blood on the altar round about.
  • 20. And Moses cut the ram into pieces, and burned the head, the pieces, and the fat.
  • 21. And he washed the intestines and the legs with water, and Moses burned the whole ram on the altar; The burnt offering was a sweet-smelling offering, an offering made by fire to the Lord, as the Lord commanded Moses.
  • 22. Then he brought the other ram, the ram of consecration; and Aaron and his sons laid their hands on the ram's head.
  • 23. And Moses beheaded him, and took some of his blood, and put it on the tip of Aaron's right ear, and on the thumb of his right hand, and on the big toe of his right foot.
  • 24. Then he brought Aaron's sons, and put some of the blood on the tip of their right ear, and on the thumb of their right hand, and on the big toe of their right foot; and Moses sprinkled the blood on the altar all around.
  • 25. Then he took the fat, and the fat tail, and all the fat that was on the entrails, and the portion of the liver, and the two kidneys, and the fat thereof, and the right shoulder.
  • 26. And from the basket of unleavened bread, which was before the Lord, he took an unleavened pie, and a pie of bread made with oil, and a bowl of bread, and put them on the fat and on the right shoulder.
  • 27. And he gave everything into the hands of Aaron and his sons, and offered them as an offering before the Lord.
  • 28. Then Moses took them from their hands and burned them on the altar as a burnt offering; they were for a consecration offering, of a sweet smell; it was a burnt offering to the Lord.
  • 29. Then Moses took the breast and offered it as a wave offering before the Lord; it was Moses' portion, as the Lord commanded Moses.
  • 30. Then Moses took the anointing oil and the blood that was on the altar, and sprinkled it on Aaron, and on his clothes, and on his sons, and on the clothes of his sons with him; and he sanctified Aaron and his garments, and his sons, and his sons' garments with him.
  • 31. Then Moses said to Aaron and his sons, Boil the meat at the door of the tent of meeting; and there you shall eat it with the bread that is in the basket of consecration, as I commanded, saying, Aaron and his sons shall eat it.
  • 32. What remains of the meat and bread burn with fire.
  • 33. And you shall not go out from the door of the tabernacle of the congregation for seven days, until the day on which the days of your consecration are fulfilled; for seven days will be your consecration.
  • 34. As it was done this day, so the Lord commanded it to be done, to make atonement for you.
  • 35. Therefore you shall be at the door of the tent of meeting day and night for seven days, and you shall keep the ordinance of the Lord, so that you will not die; because I was commanded to do so.
  • 36. So Aaron and his sons did according to everything the Lord commanded through Moses.
