The sin offering

  • 1. The Lord said to Moses:
  • 2. Speak to the children of Israel, saying: When anyone sins through ignorance against any of the commandments of the Lord, concerning the things that should not be done, and does any of them,
  • 3. If it is the anointed priest who sins, bringing guilt upon the people, then he shall offer to the Lord for his sin, which he committed, a bull without blemish, as atonement for the sin he committed.
  • 4. And he shall bring the bull to the door of the tent of meeting before the Lord; He will lay his hand on the bull's head and kill it before the Lord.
  • 5. Then the anointed priest will take some of the bull's blood and bring it to the tent of meeting;
  • 6. And the priest shall dip his finger in the blood, and sprinkle it with his finger seven times before the Lord, before the veil of the sanctuary.
  • 7. The priest shall also put some of the blood on the horns of the altar of fragrant incense before the Lord, which is in the tent of meeting, and all the blood of the bull he shall pour out at the base of the altar of burnt offering, which is at the door of the tent of meeting .
  • 8. And he shall take away all the fat of the bull of the sin offering from off it, the fat that covers the inwards, and all the fat that is on the inwards,
  • 4. And the two kidneys, and the fat that is upon them, which is by the loins; and the shingle of the liver with the kidneys shall he take away.
  • 10. As it is taken from the bull of the peace offering; and the priest shall burn them on the altar of burnt offering.
  • 11. But the skin of the bull, and all its flesh, with its head, and its legs, and its inwards, and its excrement;
  • 12. Yes, every bull he will take outside the camp, to a clean place, where the ashes are thrown, and he will burn it on wood with fire; where the ash falls will be burned.
  • 13. And if the whole congregation of Israel sin through ignorance, and the matter is hidden from the eyes of the congregation, and they do any of the things which the Lord commanded them not to do, and so they are guilty;
  • 14. When the sin they have committed is known, then the congregation will offer a bull as a sin offering and bring it before the tent of meeting.
  • 15. And the elders of the congregation shall lay their hands upon the head of the bull before the Lord; and the bull will be killed before the Lord.
  • 16. Then the anointed priest will bring some of the bull's blood into the tent of meeting;
  • 17. And the priest shall dip his finger in the blood, and sprinkle it with his finger seven times before the Lord, before the veil.
  • 18. He shall also put some of the blood on the horns of the altar that is before the Lord in the tent of meeting, and pour out all the blood at the base of the altar of burnt offering, which is at the door of the tent of meeting.
  • 19. And he shall take all his fat from him, and burn it on the altar.
  • 20. He will do the same with the bull, as he did with the bull for the sin offering; He will do so, and the priest will make atonement for them, and their sin will be forgiven.
  • 21. And he will take the bull outside the camp, and burn it as he burned the first bull; It is a sacrifice for the sin of the congregation.
  • 22. When a prince sins, and does through ignorance one of the commandments of the Lord his God concerning things that should not be done, and thus does something that should not be done,
  • 23. And when the sin which he has committed is known to him, he shall bring for his offering a male goat without blemish.
  • 24. And he shall lay his hand upon the head of the goat, and slaughter it in the place where the burnt offering is slaughtered before the Lord; It is an offering for sin.
  • 25. And the priest shall take with his finger of the blood of the sin offering, and shall put it upon the horns of the altar of burnt offering, and shall pour out the remainder of the blood at the base of the altar of burnt offering.
  • 26. And all its fat shall he burn upon the altar, as the fat of the peace offering; so the priest will make atonement for him concerning his sin, and his sin will be forgiven.
  • 27. And if any of the people of the land sin through ignorance, doing against any of the commandments of the Lord that which ought not to be done, and thus be guilty;
  • 28. If the sin he has committed is known to him, then he shall offer as his offering a female goat without blemish, for the sin he has committed.
  • 29. And he will lay his hand on the head of the sin offering, and will slaughter it for the sin in the place where the burnt offering is slaughtered.
  • 30. And the priest shall take the blood with his finger, and place it on the horns of the altar of burnt offering, and pour out the remainder of the blood at the base of the altar.
  • 31. And he will take away all the fat thereof, as one takes away the fat from the sacrifice of peace offerings; and the priest shall burn it on the altar, for a sweet odor to the Lord; and the priest will make atonement for her, and her sin will be forgiven.
  • 32. And if he brings a lamb for a sin offering, he will bring a female without blemish.
  • 33. And he will lay his hand on the head of the sin offering, and will kill it for a sin offering in the place where the burnt offering is slaughtered.
  • 34. And the priest shall take of the blood of the sin offering with his finger, and put it on the horns of the altar of burnt offering, and pour out the remainder of the blood at the base of the altar.
  • 35. And he shall take away all its fat, as one takes away the fat of the lamb of the peace offering; and the priest shall burn it upon the altar, upon the offerings made by fire to the Lord; and the priest will make atonement for him for the sin he has committed, and his sin will be forgiven him.
