Zophar
- 1. Then Zophar of Naamath answered:
- 2. “Will these empty words go unanswered? Will what this chatterbox says be confirmed?
- 3. Don't your foolish words deserve a response? Will no one scold you for your mockery?
- 4. You say to God, 'My doctrine is perfect, and I am pure in your eyes.'
- 5. Ah, if God spoke to you, if he opened his lips to respond!
- 6. He would reveal to you the secrets of wisdom, for true wisdom is complex. You need to know that God has forgotten some of your sins.
- 7. “Can you understand the mysteries of God? Can you reach the limits of the Almighty?
- 8.They are higher than the heavens! What can you do? They are deeper than the abyss! What can you know?
- 9. Its reach extends beyond the land and its width is greater than the sea.
- 10. “If God passes by and imprisons someone and calls a court, who can stop him?
- 11. For he knows the wicked, recognizes iniquity and does not tolerate it.
- 12. However, the fool becomes wise when the wild ass's calf is born as a man.
- 13. “But if you give your heart to God and stretch out your hands to Him;
- 14. if he puts sin out of his hands and does not allow unrighteousness to dwell in his tent,
- 15. then you will be able to lift your head without being ashamed; will be firm and fearless.
- 16. He will forget his afflictions, remembering them only as waters that have passed away.
- 17. Your life will be brighter than noon, and the darkness will be like the bright morning.
- 18. You will have confidence, because there will be hope; he will look around and rest in safety.
- 19. He will lie down and no one will make him afraid, many will seek his favor.
- 20. But the eyes of the wicked will be consumed, and their refuge will be in vain; your last breath will be hope.”
