Genesis – Old Testament
  • 1. And God remembered Noah, and all the animals and all the cattle that were with him in the ark; and God caused a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters were still.
  • 2. The fountains of the deep and the windows of heaven were also closed, and the rain from heaven ceased.
  • 3. And the waters continually drained from the earth; after one hundred and fifty days, they dwindled.
  • 4. In the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, the ark rested on the mountains of Ararat.
  • 5. The waters decreased until the tenth month; In the tenth month, on the first day of the month, the tops of the mountains appeared.
  • 6. After forty days, Noah opened the window he had made in the ark
  • 7. and he released a raven, which went out and went back and forth until the waters were dried up from off the earth.
  • 8. Then he sent out a dove to see if the waters had receded from the face of the earth.
  • 9. But the dove found no rest for the sole of her foot, and returned to him into the ark; for the waters were still upon the face of the whole earth; and Noah, stretching out his hand, took it and took it with him into the ark.
  • 10. He waited another seven days and again released the dove outside the ark.
  • 11. In the evening the dove came to him; and behold, it had in its beak a green olive branch; Thus, Noah understood that the waters had receded from the earth.
  • 12. He waited another seven days and released the dove again; She, however, never returned to him.
  • 13. In the year six hundred and one, in the first month, on the first day of the month, the waters dried up from off the earth. Noah removed the covering from the ark, looked, and behold, the ground was dry.
  • 14. And in the second month, on the twenty-seventh day of the month, the land was completely dry.
  • 15. Then God spoke to Noah, saying:
  • 16. Come out of the ark, you and your wife, and your sons, and your sons' wives.
  • 17. Bring out with you every animal of all flesh, both birds and domestic animals and every creeping thing that creeps on the earth, so that they may inhabit the earth and be fruitful and multiply therein.
  • 18. So Noah went out, and with him his sons, his wife, and his sons' wives.
  • 19. All the animals, all the reptiles, all the birds, everything that moves on the earth, according to their families, came out of the ark.
  • 20. Noah built an altar to the Lord, and took every clean animal and every clean bird and offered burnt offerings on the altar.
  • 21. And the Lord smelled the sweet smell and said within himself: I will no longer curse the ground for man's sake, for man's inner mind from his youth is evil; nor will I destroy every living creature again, as I did.
  • 22. As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease.
