The list of returnees

  • 1. This is the list of the men of the province whom Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, had deported to Babylon, but who returned to Jerusalem and Judah, each to his own city.

  • 62. They looked for the records of their genealogies, but they were unable to find them, and therefore they were considered unclean and could not exercise the priesthood.

  • 64. The total number of exiles who returned was 42,360 men,

  • 66. They had 736 horses, 245 mules,
  • 67, 435 camels and 6,720 donkeys.
  • 68. When they arrived at the temple of the Lord in Jerusalem, some of the leaders of the families made freewill offerings to rebuild the temple of God in its ancient location.
  • 69. According to their means, they gave 500 kilos of gold, 3 tons of silver and 100 priestly vestments to the treasury of the work.
  • 70. The priests, the Levites, the singers, the gatekeepers, and the temple servants, as well as the other Israelites, settled in their own cities.
