The vestments of the priests

  • 1. And they made menial garments of blue, purple, and crimson, to minister in the sanctuary; and they made the holy garments for Aaron, as the Lord commanded Moses.
  • 2. He also made the ephod of gold, of blue, and of purple, and of crimson, and of fine twined linen.
  • 3. And they beat the sheets of gold, and cut them into threads, to weave them into the garments in which they should minister, as the Lord commanded Moses.
  • 4. And they made the shoulder guards, the beams, the rings, and the ornaments of the shoulder guards of pure gold, according to the work of a craftsman.
  • 5. And they made the breastplate, the work of a workman, of the same make as the garments, of gold, and of blue, and of purple, and of crimson, and of fine twined linen.
  • 6. They made it of beaten gold, and gave it a square shape, and made for it four rows of stones. In the first row were a sardius, a topaz, and a carbuncle; that was the first row.
  • 7. In the second row, an emerald, a sapphire and a diamond.
  • 8. In the third row, a hyacinth, an agate and an amethyst.
  • 9. In the fourth row, a beryl, an onyx and a jasper; they were set in gold in their ranks.
  • 10. And the stones were according to the names of the children of Israel, twelve according to their names; like the engravings on a seal, each according to its name, for the twelve tribes.
  • 11. And they made little chains upon the breastplate at the end; They made the little chains of pure braided gold.
  • 12. They also made two gold settings and two gold rings; and they put the two rings on the two ends of the breastplate.
  • 13. And they put the two little chains of gold on the two rings at the ends of the breastplate.
  • 14. And they put the two ends of the two little chains on the two plates, and put them on the shoulders of the ephod in front of it.
  • 15. They also made two other sheets of gold, and cut them into threads, to weave them into the garments on the front of the ephod.
  • 16. And they made two more rings of gold; and they placed them on the two ends of the breastplate, on its edges, on the inside of the ephod.
  • 17. And they made two other rings of gold; and they placed them on the two shoulders of the ephod, below, in the front part thereof, together with the upper part thereof.
  • 18. And they made two rings of gold; which they placed on the two ends of the breastplate, on its edge, which was on the inside, next to the ephod.
  • 19. And they made two other rings of gold; and they placed them on the two shoulders of the ephod, below, in the front part of it, together with the upper part of the same, in the place where they join, above the girdle of the ephod.
  • 20. And they connected the breastplate by its rings to the rings of the breastplate with a blue cord, so that it was upon the girdle of the ephod, and the breastplate was not separated from the ephod, as the Lord commanded Moses.
  • 21. They also made a tunic of fine twined linen, made from the work of a loom, for Aaron and for his sons.

  • 29. And he made its bases of silver; the foundations of the holy place and the foundations of the veil; twenty bases of one hundred shekels for each base, and the bases for the other columns.
