The consecration of the firstborn
- 1. The Lord said to Moses:
- 2. “Consecrate all the firstborn to me. Every firstborn among the Israelites, whether man or beast, belongs to me.”
- 3. Moses said to the people: “Remember this day when you came out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery, because with a mighty hand the Lord brought you out of there. Don't eat leavened bread.
- 4. Today, in the month of lapwing, you are going out.
- 5. When the Lord takes you to the land of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Hivites and Jebusites, a land that he swore to your ancestors to give them, a land flowing with milk and honey, celebrate this rite this month.

- 15. Today you are going out. In the month of Abib, celebrate this rite.

Crossing the sea
- 17. For seven days let no yeast be found in your houses. Anyone who eats anything fermented will be eliminated from the community of Israel, whether they are a foreigner or a native of the land.
- 18. “Eat only unleavened bread wherever you live.”
