Exclusion from the assembly

  • 1. “He who has had his testicles crushed or has had his male member amputated will not be able to participate in the assembly of the Lord.
  • 2. “He who was born from an illicit union will not be able to participate in the assembly of the Lord, nor will his descendants up to the tenth generation.
  • 3. “No Ammonite or Moabite, nor their descendants up to the tenth generation, will be able to participate in the assembly of the Lord.
  • 4. For they did not offer you bread and water when they came out of Egypt, and they also hired Balaam son of Beor from Pethor in Mesopotamia to curse you.
  • 5. However, the Lord your God did not listen to Balaam, but turned the curse into a blessing, because the Lord your God loves you.
  • 6. Therefore, do not make a covenant of peace with them while you live.
  • 7. “Do not despise the Edomites, for they are your brothers. And do not despise the Egyptians, for you were strangers in their land.
  • 8. The third generation of Edomite descendants will be able to participate in the Lord's assembly.

Impurity in the camp

  • 9. “When you are encamped at war with your enemies, keep away from everything unclean.
  • 10. If any man is unclean because of a nocturnal emission, he must leave the camp.
  • 11. In the evening he will wash, and at sunset he can return to the camp.
  • 12. “Have a place outside the camp where you can relieve yourself.
  • 13. Include a shovel among your equipment, and when you relieve yourself, dig a hole and cover the excrement.
  • 14. For the Lord your God walks through the camp to protect you and to deliver your enemies into your hands. Therefore, the camp must be holy, so that the Lord will not see anything indecent among you and turn away.

Various laws

  • 15. “If a slave runs away and comes to you, do not hand him over to his master.
  • 16. Let him live among you, in the city he chooses, for as long as he wishes. Don't oppress him.
  • 17. “No Israelite, man or woman, should prostitute himself as a religious cult.
  • 18. Do not bring to the sanctuary of the Lord your God the money of a prostitute or the payment of a male prostitute to fulfill a vow, for the Lord has an aversion to both.
  • 19. “Do not charge an Israelite interest, whether in money, food or anything that generates interest.
  • 20. You may charge interest from a foreigner, but not from a fellow Israelite, so that the Lord your God may bless you in everything you do in the land you are entering to possess.
  • 21. “When you make a vow to the Lord your God, fulfill it without delay, for the Lord your God will certainly require you to fulfill it, and you will be guilty of sin if you do not do so.
  • 22. However, if you do not make a vow, you are not guilty.
  • 23. Fulfill all the vows you made, because you yourselves, of your own free will, made a commitment to the Lord, your God, through your words.
  • 24. “If you go into your neighbor's vineyard, you can eat all the grapes you want, but don't put anything in your basket.
  • 25. If you enter your neighbor's wheat field, you may pick ears of grain with your hands, but do not use a sickle to harvest your neighbor's wheat.
