Disposition of tribes when encamped

  • 1. And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron, saying,
  • 2. Each of the children of Israel shall encamp under his banner, with the ensigns of his fathers' house; around the Tent of Meeting they will camp.
  • 3. Those who encamp on the east side, toward the east, are the armies of Judah, according to their squadrons; and the prince of the children of Judah shall be Nahshon the son of Amminadab.
  • 4. And his host, and those that were numbered of them, were seventy-four thousand six hundred.
  • 5. And those who encamp with him shall be the tribe of Issachar; and the prince of the sons of Issachar shall be Nathanael the son of Zuar.
  • 6. And his host, and those that were numbered of them, were fifty-four thousand four hundred.
  • 7. The tribe of Zebulun; and the prince of the sons of Zebulun shall be Eliab the son of Helon.
  • 8. And his host, and those that were numbered of them, were fifty-seven thousand four hundred.
  • 9. All the numbered of the host of Judah were one hundred and eighty and six thousand and four hundred; these will march first.
  • 10. On the south side shall be the army of the tribe of Reuben, according to their squadrons; and the prince of the sons of Reuben shall be Elizur the son of Sedeur.
  • 11. And his host, and those that were numbered of them, were forty-six thousand five hundred.
  • 12. The tribe of Simeon shall encamp beside him; and the prince of the sons of Simeon shall be Shelumiel the son of Zurisadai.
  • 13. And his host, and those that were numbered of them, were fifty nine thousand three hundred.
  • 14. The tribe of Gad; and the prince of the children of Gad shall be Eliasaph the son of Deuel.
  • 15. And his host, and those that were numbered of them, were forty-five thousand six hundred and fifty.
  • 16. All the numbered of Reuben's host were one hundred and fifty and one thousand four hundred and fifty; these will march in second place.
  • 17. After the tent of meeting shall the Levites march in the midst of the armies; as they encamp, so shall they march, each in his place, under his banners.
  • 18. The army of Ephraim, according to their squadrons, will be to the west; and the prince of the children of Ephraim shall be Elishama the son of Ammihud.
  • 19. And his host, and those that were numbered of them, were forty-one thousand five hundred.
  • 20. Next to him will be the tribe of Manasseh; and the prince of the sons of Manasseh shall be Gamaliel the son of Pedazur.
  • 21. And his host, and those that were numbered of them, were thirty-two thousand and two hundred.
  • 22. The tribe of Benjamin; and the prince of the children of Benjamin shall be Abidan the son of Gideoni.
  • 23. And his host, and those that were numbered of them, were thirty-five thousand four hundred.
  • 24. All the numbered of the army of Ephraim were one hundred and eight thousand and one hundred; these will march in third place.
  • 25. On the north side shall be the army of the tribe of Dan, according to their squadrons; and the prince of the sons of Dan shall be Aieser the son of Amishadai.
  • 26. And his host, and those that were numbered of them, were threescore and two thousand seven hundred.
  • 27. The tribe of Asher will encamp next to him; and the prince of the sons of Aser shall be Pagiel the son of Ochran.
  • 28. And his host, and those that were numbered of them, were forty-one thousand five hundred.
  • 29. The tribe of Naphtali; and the prince of the children of Naphtali shall be Ahira the son of Enan.
  • 30. And his host, and those that were numbered of them, were fifty-three thousand four hundred.
  • 31. All the numbered of the army of Dan were one hundred and fifty and seven thousand and six hundred; these will march last, according to their banners.
  • 32. These are the numbered of the children of Israel, according to their fathers' houses; all the numbered of the armies in their hosts were six hundred and three thousand five hundred and fifty.
  • 33. But the Levites were not numbered among the children of Israel, as the LORD had commanded Moses.
  • 34. And the children of Israel did according to all that the LORD had commanded Moses; so they encamped according to their banners, and so they marched each according to their families, according to their fathers' houses.
