The temple furniture

  • 1. Solomon also had a bronze altar made nine meters long, nine meters wide and four and a half meters high.
  • 2. He made the tank from cast metal, round, measuring four and a half meters in diameter and two meters and twenty-five centimeters in height. A thirteen and a half meter long thread was needed to measure its circumference.
  • 3. Below the edge and around it were figures of bulls, every five centimeters. The bulls were cast in two rows and in one piece with the tank.
  • 4. The pool stood on twelve bulls, three facing north, three facing west, three facing south and three facing east. It stood on top of them, and the bulls' hind legs were facing the center.
  • 5. The thickness of the pool was four fingers, and its rim was like the rim of a chalice, like a lily flower. Its capacity was sixty thousand liters.
  • 6. He made ten lavers, placing five on the south side and five on the north side. Everything used in burnt offerings was washed in them, while the pool was used for the priests to wash.
  • 7. He made ten golden lampstands according to the specifications and placed them in the temple, five on the south side and five on the north side.
  • 8. He made ten tables and placed them in the temple, five on the south side and five on the north side. He also made a hundred golden sprinkling basins.
  • 9. He also made the courtyard of the priests and the main courtyard with its gates and overlaid its gates with bronze.
  • 10. He placed the pool on the south side, in the southeast corner of the temple.
  • 11. He also made the pitchers, the shovels and the sprinkling basins. Huram-Abbi thus completed the work he had been given by King Solomon in the temple of God:
  • 12. The two columns; the two cup-shaped capitals at the top of the columns; the two sets of chains that decorated the two capitals;
  • 42. the four hundred pomegranates for the two sets of chains; two rows of pomegranates for each set;
  • 14. the ten carts with their ten sinks;
  • 15. the pool and the twelve bulls under it;
  • 16. pitchers, shovels, meat forks and all similar utensils. All these utensils that Huram-Abbi made for the temple of the Lord, at the request of King Solomon, were of polished bronze.
  • 17. It was in the plain of the Jordan, between Succoth and Zeredah, that the king ordered them to be cast in clay molds.
  • 18. Solomon made them in such large quantities that the weight of the bronze used could not be determined.
  • 19. In addition to these, Solomon also ordered all these other utensils to be made for the temple of God: The golden altar; the tables on which the bread of the Presence was placed;
  • 20. the lampstands of pure gold with their lamps, to give light before the inner sanctuary, as determined;
  • 21. the flowers, the lamps and the tongs of solid gold;
  • 22. the wick trimmers, the sprinkling basins, the bowls, the censers of pure gold, and the golden doors of the temple: both the doors of the inner room, the Most Holy Place, and the doors of the main court.
