Jotham is king of Judah

  • 1. Jotham was twenty-five years old when he began to reign and ruled for sixteen years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Jerusa and she was the daughter of Zadok.
  • 2. He followed the path approved by the Lord, just like his father, but he did not dare to enter the temple of the Lord. However, the people continued to do evil.
  • 3. Jotham rebuilt the Upper Gate of the Lord's temple and did extensive work on the wall of the hill of Ophel.
  • 4. He also built cities on the mountains of Judah, as well as fortresses and towers in the forests.
  • 5. Jotham fought against the king of the Ammonites and won. The Ammonites began to pay him three thousand and five hundred bars of silver, ten thousand cors of wheat and ten thousand of barley, for three consecutive years.
  • 6. Jotham grew stronger and stronger, because he remained steadfast in following the will of the Lord his God.
  • 7. The other events of Jotham's reign, including all his wars and achievements, are recorded in the annals of the kings of Israel and Judah.
  • 8. Jotham was twenty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem.
  • 9. Jotham rested with his ancestors and was buried in the City of David. His son Ahaz became the next king.
